We had to laugh when we heard they closed the schools because it rained. They can't have their precious snowflakes get wet.

This pic is supposed to be an undercover cop... what LEO holds his gun like that?

Let's paint a picture of the whole screen before we pass judgment:

Embedded UC/LEO in a hostile crowd to monitor and report activities due to previous reports of property damage and injuries to the public caused by riotous crowds. He and his assigned partner encounter a subject they need to take action with. They start to deal with the party and a hostile crowd of 100-150 parties start to confront the officers.

The LEO is standing with his l/hand on his partners back who is laying on top of the subject. So not only is he watching out for his safety, his partner's safety as well as the subjects is at risk from the hostile crowd. And yes, the main body of the crowd is not in view of the photo. Being outnumbered 100 to 1 or 2 is a bad spot to be in.

The photo was taken in 1/1000th of a second in a situation that lasted much longer than that. In the process of drawing his service weapon, it appears to be in that particular angle. Besides, in that situation, does it really matter? Holding a subject down while holding a hostile crowd back is a lot to do at once. Most people have a difficult time driving and listening to the radio, let alone deal with a potential life and death situation. Until you yourself(general reference intent) are faced with that type of situation, just keep in mind there is much more to the situation that what a single photo can depict.

Just sayin.

That picture is somewhat before my time. In the early 70's my GF's family took me to dinner at the Reindeer room. I still remember the lobster tank being wheeled to the table so that the Dad could pick one out.

I respect an officers right to use his or her firearm to defend themselves and/or the public.

However you seem to have a rather detailed story of what happened... what source are you using to derive your conclusions?

The sources I used in my reply are available to any and all who look into the situation. Researching all sources biased and non-biased to get as much of the information as possible.

Just a few that are out there- the list is endless.....

I also saw/heard this exact same account of the event on the local news which contained part of a press conference held by the CHP. The report also mentioned that, before drawing his weapon, the officer identified himself as a LEO and displayed a nightstick. This apparently had little effect on the 'protestors', and only then did the officer un-holster his gun.

The SF area is notorious for destructive 'protests' of this kind and they draw participants from far & wide who are looking to get in on the action. Local athorities are well aware that these mobs are being stirred up by 'professional agitators' who's sole aim is to create as much mayhem and destruction as possible. Most of these people were probably not even aware of what this demonstration was originally intended for. This was an ugly scene, and I don't think that the officer's conduct in that very tense moment should be called into question.
