Just returned home from watching it. In addition to Grant pointing out that Kyle was Navy, not Army, I really don't see this as a recruitment film. To me, it was the anti-recruitment film.

Possible spoiler:
Nobody I know says, "Man I can't wait to join up and see my friends killed, then come home and be a completely disfunctional head case."
