I was on the ramp at Maxwell AFB as many of the Vietnam POW's returned home and met their families. I was working as a photographer for the newspaper. I had a few great photos of the men and families. Since my dad was an Air Force officer he had to connections to help me mail a copy of photos like that directly to the families. I wanted those heroes and their family to have them.

That's a wonderful story, Glen. Good for you and your father. I spent my early years in Norfolk and remember myself seeing many a reunion of sailor and family after a long tour of duty. Special times indeed.

Something tells me the best part about this photos was the part cropped off of the bottom.

No I did not shoot that one but I shot some about like it. One of my favorites was the returning POW in uniform in the back seat of a car with his small several year old son he had never seen on his lap. That POW had the best happiest grin ever.

Maxwell AFB was one of several bases that POWs were reunited with their families. It was a big thing for everyone. I was just part of the group of news photographers there to record it.
