Those did look like nails to me at first glance, then I realized the wires are stripped back so the culprit just used the backstab connections on the front outlet, and extended the wires into the hidden (original) outlet.

I suspect the "Nailed it!" comment was referring to someone's attempt to duplicate a professional job and widely missing the mark. Don't forget the pic!
