That looks like the concrete ground around the engine.

So this owner above has gold plated bling added, but does not put back the sheet metal around the engine. It will suck all the exhaust system heat right into the engine fan.

No, there is sheet metal that usually there that keeps you from being able to see down to the ground (or exhaust) on most of the cars, but on that one, you can see straight through to the exhaust and the ground. The sheetmetal is functional (has a purpose) for engine cooling (unless 912s are different).

Actually, now that you mention it, I think the ratchet is crap too. The axis of the mechanism is off, I assume broken when the extension was broken.
