In my flight sim the RedBull P-38 propellers are opposite-rotating. Both travel upwards past the center cockpit/nacelle. But this entry indicates that is impossible: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-82_Twin_Mustang Initially, the left engine was a V-1650-23 with a gear reduction box to allow the left propeller to turn opposite to the right propeller, which was driven by the more conventional V-1650-25. In this arrangement both propellers would turn upward as they approached the center wing, which in theory would have allowed better single-engine control. This proved not to be the case when the aircraft refused to become airborne during its first flight attempt. Is there something special about the F-82 layout that changes the airflow patterns? |

Thx.
So the two propellers push air into the center, creating a high pressure zone to disrupt the airflow underneath, which affects the vacuum over the wing? Chain reaction thing? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1517423604.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1517423618.jpg |
The P-38 does not really have a large 'center wing' to stall like the F-82 does... I read that's the difference.
And what wing there is in the center is separated by the cockpit, so the props don't interfere with each other. |

I wish I had started my flight sim journey...with 64bit...more than 4MB RAM max...more than one CPU core...free-photo scenery...gorgeous...lightweight X-Plane.
It is actually the devil FSX. The bane of my very existence. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1517444167.jpg |
