I love Ford trucks. They’ve been very good to me. We routinely get 400K + miles from an F250 on the original engine and trans.

That said, the frequency with which the 5.4’s launch properly torqued spark plugs is just not right - Ford should have voluntarily made good on these defects.

If you count real carefully you’ll find there’s just about 4 full threads in that aluminum head for each spark plug. That’s just not enough to hold one.

There’s at least 10 threads on the OEM plug.

My 5.4L has 97,000 miles on the O'riginal plugs and I ain't gonna touch them.
I'll trade it in before they get replaced.

Many suggest just loosening and retorquing them to avoid problems. We do see huge gaps develop which really affect mpg.

My 2007 F150 5.4 has the infamous 2 piece shielded 100K mile plugs. Steel plug shield fuses to aluminum head. After many miles and billions of heat cycles, plug breaks in the head when one tries to remove them. Broke 7/8 plugs, used special 'extraction tool' and was successful on 6/7 broken plugs. Had to pull the head to get the last one out. What a PITA!!!

Would love to talk to the ford / champion plug engineer that came up with that brilliant concept. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1520004981.jpg
