We grew up right up the street from there and Linda was wrong, it was never on the corner of Alvarado. We sure hung out at the Pioneer Chicken stand lots during our jr hi and high school years. A 5-6 block walk and we have Fried chicken. It was on Echo Park Ave and Sunset and there was a Pioneer market too. Oh yeah, it was a dump. Now those houses within a half a block from there are over a mil. Everything has been gone for 15-20 years now.

I just look at your photo again and realized that building is the newer Pioneer at the same location but build in the middle to late 80s. I think the old one was a rounded, hut looking thing. Of course, they had a few locations

Well, an alternative is to look at it from the perspective of the girl with her back turned.

She can walk high like the person she is looking at, or turn her back and be like the foreground.

Sally Mann. Uses antique large frame cameras. This video snippet makes me want to go get one. Watching what's involved in taking a pic reminds me of the nut jobs who dare reach in and adjust the valves on their 911's. Gluttons for punishment for the sake of a result. Love it!

My old job involved using modern versions of that camera. I used a 8x10 Sinar P and 4x5 versions as well. Even 20 years ago a piece of 8x10 film and the processing was expensive. Finding a place to process color sheet film would be tough in most cities. The chemistry needed and the tanks big enough to process it right would cost a lot. In the end, if he can find a buyer for his work great. It sure is a lot of work.
