Boy, does that ever bring back memories. I well remember the battle to be the first Top Fuel car into the fives. Most folks thought it was either going to be John Wiebe holding out in one of the last competitive slingshots, or Don Prudhomme in his rear engined "Yellow Feather". Hot Rod magazine did a multi-page write-up on the two cars, examining which would do it first and why. Turns out it was neither - Mike Snivley did it first. Don Prudhomme, however, did manage the first five second Funny Car run.

Oooh yeah - my dad took us kids every year. When I got old enough, I drove myself every year until they quit doing it. John Denver used to do the radio ad - "drag racing is faaaaaar out!!!!"
