Evel is very well known for his jumps that used a Harley XR-750 flat track bike. He was also sponsored by Harley. Here's a display at the HD museum:

The hoses, no. There is supposed to be a breakaway valve that seals off fuel that isn’t installed correctly or malfunctioned.

Yeah, wow - how could anybody who claims to be a gearhead of any kind who grew up in the '60's and '70's not know that Evel Knievel eventually jumped nothing but Harleys? As a matter of fact, he rather infamously lambasted his own son, Robbie, for jumping dirt bikes instead. It was "too easy"... They had a huge falling out over it...
