Ed, first picture reminds me some kind of sci-fi movie where humans are cloned ... obviously the end result (GT3 Cup) is much better.

Actually, here is more detail on what goes on than what Porsche has on their site:

"Porsche’s race car output is tiny compared with the number of street vehicles it builds, but its projected total of racers in 2007 outstrips any pretenders to the crown. It expects to build no fewer than 275 cars destined for the racetrack this season. That total includes seven RS Spyder LMP2 prototypes (one test car and six that will compete in the American Le Mans Series), 37 GT2-spec 911 GT3-RSRs and—wait for it—231 911 GT3 Cup cars for the world’s 12 Porsche-only series, from the Formula One-supporting Supercup to the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge in North America. That easily surpasses the 195 racers Porsche built for 2006.

The phenomenal growth of Porsche’s race car business explains why it rebuilt and expanded what is now known as the Motorsport Center at its famed Weissach research and development headquarters near Stuttgart. “We were popping out of our seams,” said Hartmut Kristen, head of Porsche Motorsport.

Redevelopment of the site, which technically should be referred to as Flacht because it lies closer to the village of that name than to the town of Weissach, started after the company board approved the expansion in February 2005.

The new Motorsport Center, officially opened last summer but not yet complete, replaces a set of ad hoc buildings known as the “barracks.” That nickname was derived from both their Spartan appearance and the fact that Porsche helped develop tanks for the German military on the site in the 1960s. Total floor space is now more than 129,000 square feet, double the previous figure.

The GT3 Cup cars are built on the 911 production line at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory on the edge of Stuttgart. They are then transported a few miles up the road to be finished at the Motorsport Center. This process includes race setup and a shakedown on the famous Weissach test track before they are handed over to the customer.

GT3-RSRs and RS Spyders are hand-built, using the same just-in-time production techniques—whereby parts arrive only as needed—now used at Zuffenhausen. “This has resulted in a reduction in manufacturing time of between 30 and 50 percent,” said Philip Morsey, head of motorsport technology and logistics. “An RSR can now be assembled in one long day if required.”

The Motorsport Center is not just for manufacturing, however. Porsche leads the way in service and support in the racing world and has done so since the first deliveries of customer 956 Group C cars started in 1983.

A giant 23,680-square-foot building services the thousands of privateers who race Porsches around the world. About 1000 911s will race in 2007 in the 12 cup series, the ALMS and the Le Mans Endurance Series (the ALMS’ European cousin) and in Grand-Am.

There are approximately 5 million parts in the warehouse at any given time, and that doesn’t include those already shipped to Porsche North America’s facility in Santa Ana, California. Parts for racing Porsches dating back to 15 years ago are among the nearly 850 tons of spares shipped annually from the Motorsport Center.

Something that caught our eye: A giant rack can store as many as 32 911 bodyshells. Costco has nothing on the world’s most prolific race car manufacturer."

Six? I know of four: Penske has two and Dyson has two. Where are the other two going? Spares? Is a spare considered a car that "will compete?"
