Anyone buy a new Dell off of EBAY?
I was curious if anyone here has experience in purchasing a new Dell desktop PC off of EBAY.
There are several individuals selling new units at discount prices with a "transferable" warranty. ??? I thought Dell only sold direct. The prices are attractive but I also believe that if it's too good to be true it probably is. What's the scoop here?

Dell only sells direct, but it is possible to transfer ownership of the machine to someone else for warranty purposes.
If you want a new Dell, I'd just get it directly from Dell.

I was told by our IT guy to look into the refurb units available from Dell...guess he knows of a few that have worked-no problemo...often times its a corporate return as someone used it for a week and upgraded to another model...might be worth a look.

I bought a Dell refurb for my parents about a year ago. They love it and haven't had any problems so far with it.

Rick,
I purchased a brand new, in-the-box Dell last year on ebay from a private party. Price was right and the warranty was transferable as stated. I used Dell's tech support a few months later and all was well. I'm assuming the seller obtained a quantity from Dell and resold them. I cannot vouch for every seller. If it looks too good to be true, it's probably a scam. An auction a couple of weeks ago advertised 10 computers in stock; he wanted payment only by money order and/or wire via Western Union; credit card or escrow was not even an option. Auction history = Sold dolls. Stay away from deals like this. I just purchased a PowerMac on ebay last week. Am crossing my fingers as delivery is expected this week. I'm looking for a decent machine to augment the the two laptops I use at home on my network. I'm very happy with the desktop PCs purchased here at the office.
My question/statement is: Does Dell actually (legitimately) sell machines wholesale to people? Apparently so. I didn't realize this was part of their business model. The question now is: Do I wait for the 64 bit Athlon processor to become mainstream? It never ends! :-)
