Shes Gone

Today I put my cat Tuddy to sleep. It went so quick. I watched her so closely over the past several months. Debating with myself if I was going to cut her life short. Several time when I was just about ready to put her down, she would rebound. When I first took her to the vet in July she weighed 13+ pounds today she weighted 2.36 pounds. She still had some appetite and some fight left in her, but was pooping everwhere, and he baclkegs were rickity to say the best, and had to use her front legs to pull herself up on things, so it was just time. She was a sweet cat who loved and trusted me implictly. From the time she was no bigger than a teacup till today. She will be missed.

What is ironic now that it is all over I think maybe I let it go on a little to long....and should have put her to sleep a little sooner... Even my dogs knew she was sick.

Sorry to hear it, Tabs. And I know how you feel, when I put my ex's Collie to sleep this year, (he was my dog, too), I felt like we waited too long. I hope that you have a great New Year and get out in the world + get a new kitten. :)

sorry to hear it..........

BTDT, recently. It sucks, but it's the best thing to do. I'm sorry, dude.

Mark Wilson 12-26-2003 07:01 PM

My sympathies.

I'm sorry for you, tabs. I've lost some pets and it is very sad. Get another cat to love, that's my advice.

My wife and I have no human children, just two indoor cats that mean the world to us.

godspeed

I recently had to have my cat put down after he lost his vision. Turned out, the cat was diabetic which caused the blindness. Animals certainly hide their ailments better than we humans do...

Nice to see that you have a soft side Tabs, my condolences for your loss.

the good news is there is another cat at the local animal shelter that would love to be in your home. Not a replacement, but another set of 4 paws looking for a home with a nice espresso maker...

The irony is when we had Christmas dinner, you came to mind because I remember your mention of having a sick cat. I thought, of all things, "I wonder how his cat is doing?"

I guess I wondered too late.

Like Todd said, there's another kitty awaiting you, and don't worry, I've heard they're easily trained to hate the R-Gruppe. ;)

Isabo 12-27-2003 02:39 AM

Condolences.
It's very sad, but it's much kinder than dragging it out and making the poor thing suffer.
Wait a couple of weeks and then think about bringing another cat into your family. As Todd said not as a replacement but as another 4 paws looking for a home with espresso maker.

Ted,
Tough call, but you did the right and humane thing for Tuddy.
Of course you'll miss her, but think of finding a new friend from a shelter, who needs your care and love.

Thank You All. I do miss that rodent catcher of mine, they do become part of yor life and family.

Milu 12-28-2003 01:38 AM

It's always hard to lose a good friend, especially when they are part of the family.

Adam 12-28-2003 04:11 AM

I'm sorry to hear that, tabs.

I know how hard it is to lose a little friend. :(

Bill Douglas 12-28-2003 02:33 PM

Sorry to hear that Tabs, but you can pat yourself on the back for having given that cat a great life.

Cornpanzer 12-28-2003 06:33 PM

Tabs,
I have two Jack Russel's who are as close to kids as my wife and I will ever have. Sorry to hear about your cat. Some poeple are animal people and others are not. I am definatly in the first group and hate to hear when someone loses thier pet.

Sonic dB 12-28-2003 06:45 PM

Very sorry to hear this Tabs. My good friend is going through a similar situation with her cat who has cancer. Its very tough cause pets really are like family, and do have their own spirits that live on.

Maybe a new kitten will help you get over the loss.

Just as I read this post, my own cat jumped up into my lap...

I have my 2 Airdales... who I love dearly. Took them to the beauty parlor on Saturday, they came back really beautiful. They seem to be moping around the house. I followed George into the back bed rm where Tuddy used to sleep, he looked on the bed where she usually lay, walked around the bed, looked under it, walked back to the other side and sniffed the bed. I told him no more Tuddy.

Saying goodbye to the little loved ones is very hard. After loosing 2 dogs I know how you feel. :(
