I like the smooth-topped cooking surfaces on the hood. ;)

Schrup 02-09-2004 07:49 PM

I thought they were getting sued because it looks too much like a Hummer.

Don't be a "hater", Paul. Ill conceived SUV's need love too...

Actually the Ford F250 based Studebaker XUV was first shown at the Chicago show last February, which led to GM getting its corporate, Hummer-sized shorts in a knot and filing a trademark infringement lawsuit against the current owners (this week, anyway) of the Avanti trade name. As I recall, they made some minor changes to the hood latches and windshield angle and ultimately settled with GM. Now buyers will surely be forming a line with their $75K checks at their nearest Studie dealer, wherever that may be...

I agree that the great Raymond Loewy would be amused (at best) by all of this.

All it needs are a set of 24" spinners...:( Nostatic is right, the world is coming to an end.

Eric 951 02-10-2004 07:20 AM

Maybe I'm alone on this one, but that original Avanti has got to be one of the ugliest cars every built ......

OTOH, I like the Cayenne, so I've obviously got extremely poor taste ...... :D

Since we're in OT, here's some flamebait - Vic Elford at speed! SmileWavy

I thought the big news this year for Detroit was the industry moving away from SUVs. Seeing that big lummox on wheels is disappointing. I know I'll get stuck behind one on the 101 freeway.

cegerer 02-12-2004 05:59 PM

Hmmmm ... yet another. SAAB bites the bullet. Well, actually GM bit the bullet for them. A SAAB body on a Chevy Trailblazer chassis ......

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1076637399.jpg

BTW, I rented a Trailblazer on a recent trip to Colorado. What an absolute POS. Numb steering feedback, sluggish acceleration, tippy around the corners, strange AWD system .... I could go on, but why.

cegerer 02-12-2004 06:04 PM

Oops, forgot this one. The Frenchie's are joining the parade too - with help in the component department from Nissan .....
