Martha Guilty

Martha Stewart was found guilty on all counts. Hmmm...I wonder if she'll teach flower arranging in prison.

Z-man 03-05-2004 12:23 PM

That information just made my day!

I will now plan my "Martha Stewart goes to jail party." Location: my garage. Dress code: any clothing that has paint, dirt, is torn...etc.

Food will be served: I have an old bag of chips and some flat soda.

Like I said before, "She's going down!"

You've gotta love Fark's headline:

"Martha Stewart found guilty of obstructing justice and lying to the government. Residency in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison thought not to be a good thing"

dd74 03-05-2004 01:22 PM

I just got in an argument with a workmate who said the reason she was found guilty was because she's a woman. C'mon. Yes, she's a corrupt, selfish, pretentious and acerbic woman, but because she's a woman. And all for $250,000?

Here's CNN's recount:

Plus her stock's gone down 6 bucks since the guilty verdicts.

RickM 03-05-2004 01:26 PM

Uh boy. Here we go, it's the Bush conspiracy against women now. LOL

Maybe Mike Milken can give her some pointers on the joys of reaming.

BlueSkyJaunte 03-05-2004 01:34 PM

Remember, it's *********s like Stewart, Ken Lay, the Tyco guy, the Worldcom guy, etc., who make money off the stockmarket while your portfolios are nose-diving. Why? Because they have the connections.

And anyone who says "she'd never do it for a lousy $60k" never learned that people don't get rich by letting thousands of $$$ slip through their fingers. I've overheard a multi-millionaire b!tch out an airline customer service rep over credit for the frequent flyer miles for a 300 mile round trip.

Hilarious!

:D

I think, though, it's been a government priority of late to go after high-level executives accused of the things Martha is guilty of - which is fine. High-level executives should think a little more clearly than Martha about their personal business transactions.

Again: just for $250,000? Staggering!

vash 03-05-2004 01:40 PM

i think it was only 51g. i wonder if she will see any hard time? oh, well you mess with the bull.....
on a side note, is her daughter hot?

RickM 03-05-2004 01:43 PM

Actually wasn't it for approx $40k ?

This was not her wisest business decision. Poor her.

And yes, it's actions like this that'll make the better-than-thou execs think twice about being stupid. But it'll still happen.

Craig Stevens 03-05-2004 02:08 PM

If being arrogant & stupid are crimes, she is definitely Guilty!! Does she deserve Jail time for those infractions? I guess everyone has their own opinion. Craig

Martha Stewart Convicted Felon

Matrta was a Stock Broker, so she know what Insider Trading is. Martha got GREEDY and stepped over the line. When called on it by the Feds..she decided to brazen it out. She could have walked in and copped a plea and said I made a mistake, bin slapped on the hand, given a fine and walked out to smell the roses in her garden. But NO SHE GOT ARROGANT and lied, and got her Stock Broker to go along with the story. The FEDS GOT PISSED OFF and decided to jam her on her blatent lies. Once they filed charges against her they probably would have cut a deal, but it would have involved doing time. Again Martha got Arrogant, her attorneys doing the best damage control they could. Now she is going to appeal, Martha still hasn't learned her lesson.

So far, in trying not to lose 50K,she has lost...A seat on the NY Stock Exchange Board of Directors, Is going to lose a seat on the Board of her own company, has lost $700,000,000. in the value of her sotock holdings in her own company, and has lost her credibilty with the American people. Thats not to say how many other investors took the ride down with her.

She is also gona be doing her TV show from prison for a while as well...she can get 5 years for each count for a max of 20 years. In my opinion the only thing that will get Marthas attention is a stay in prison, maybe scrubbing tolliettes would be a good job for her...just think she could write a prison memior " The Joy of Scrubbing Tolliettes." Giving helpfull hints as to how you can make them smell better. I believe she will get 2 years per count for a total of 8 years. Prison time is the only thing that you can really hurt Martha with and a lenghty sentence will get her attention. Maybe then she might become a little more contrite and show some humility.

BTW: You boyz don't get it Martha BROKE THE LAW, and by being a STOCK BROKER KNEW SHE WAS BREAKING THE LAW. She thought that by being Martha Stewart she was smart enough to beat the Feds. By convicting her it keeps Wall Street HONEST, because it shows those boyz what trying to be slick does for ya. In the end it keeps your money safer from the sharks who would part you from it.

trj911 03-05-2004 02:39 PM

Not only was she a broker, she was on the board of the NYSE. She knew what she did was wrong and that is why she lied.

dd74 03-05-2004 02:41 PM

Tabs: I like your vivid description of all Martha will go through. But I think there's a bigger picture here, which is the Feds saying to all people of influence that their influence will no longer allow them to sidestep what is illegal. If Martha was made an example of, it was that.

I really could care less what happens to her - she could scrub toilets, darn prison socks, or be on a chain gang cleaning up highway garbage. Her reputation was crap when she was first alleged of insider trading. The bigger and better message is to all the potential Marthas out there who think they can do the same and not get punished for it.

tabs 03-05-2004 02:55 PM

The Feds orginally wanted to cut a deal with her. All she had to was admit she did the insider trading, pay the traffic fine and be on her way. BUT NO...Pride, arrogance or wqhatever you wana call it got her to where she is today. She misjudged the political climate, and the Rat Trap sprung on her.

tabs 03-05-2004 03:02 PM

In other words she didn't play by the rules of the game, and didn't think the new rule changes applied to her. Maybe she thought it was over such a small amount of money that the Feds wouldn't bother. Wrong after Enron, TyCo, World Com. the Feds had to change the rules make it clear that you had to play by the book. whats at stake here is confidence in our system of financial investment. It's the same thing as the 1919 Black Sox throwing the World Series...to make sure the public doesn't lose confiednce that the game is played straight up, heads had to role. That why if they give ole Pete Rose a pass to the Hall of Fame down the road Baseball is going to have a problem.

Butt seriously...

What's the colloquial term for a women's penitentiary?
