12 square miles burned so far. This is the "Station" fire, La Canada Flintridge.
I had a polarizing filter on and shouldn't have. Tis why it's so blue in the upper left corner. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251595484.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251595527.jpg |
Saw this truck on the Interstate today...You just can't make up stuff like this:

Dave - that smoke plume is just insane! I got a glimpse of it from Westlake today (~40 miles away from the fire) but we can't see it from our house.

Beautiful pictures regardless. Here's a shot I took of what I guess is the Morris fire about an hour after it started on Tuesday. http://homepage.mac.com/drew1/.Pictu...k_ANF_Fire.jpg I had no idea that there was a fire. I was up above Culver City playing with my new 10-22 wide angle lens and saw the smoke. I had to switch over to my 24-105 to get that shot. |
Hi Drew, it's a Nikon 18-135mm kit lens. It's a great walk around lens, just missing VR. The second is not a crop, exif shows 55mm, the first at 22mm.
Have fun with the 10-22mm! Dave |
Cali fire Pics
Many of the California fire pics running on the wire services and other places are being shot by Jae C. Hong, one of the finest young photographers I ever had the pleasure of working with. He interned in Birmingham, Alabama and got a sweet gig when he left.... Go J.C.! SmileWavy

Sunday Drive - 082909
Met up with some guys I know though Motorworld.net and went for a country ride. The 1972 Pantera was just purchased, an estate sale listed in Craig's list of all places - screaming deal I was told. Original paint plus the carpeted luggage tray basket shown behind the Ferrari. I think this is the original fuel pump at 121,000 miles. I changed it out Sunday, it was making a lot of noise and acting up.

Well, not the highest quality photos...
I just don't get these cars with the crazy spinners. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251824456.jpg And, from the same phone, but only minutes ago. "She" had to be at least 6" tall. Freaking ridiculous. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251824480.jpg |

first in the chain 6,000hp motor powering an air compressor. You can see a 2 stage behind powered by the monster 11,000hp beast shown in next pic. It was nearly dark in the bldg so the picture is not the best. Outside are some of the air to air intercoolers. Some big old boys. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251827066.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251827297.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251827462.jpg |
