I think he was captioning the photo. The gull has that expression if you want it to.

Looks like a typical SoCal variety of which there is an actual classification: California Gull, Larus californicus.

Thanks Milt, I didn't realize I needed to explain it. It was just Pelican envy.

And he/she wasn't a bad looking gull. Pelicans can be beautiful or homely.

It just reminded me of a video floating around (think it's even on here somewhere) of a Pelican standing next to a pigeon by a pond.

Pelican leans over, grabs the pigeon and eats it alive. You can see it thrashing around in the pelican's pouch.

I was in an upper deck that is in the middle of the tri-oval, so with the combination of the height and the zoom, it does give the appearance that in a helicopter (or doing my best impression of Superman)!
