Whew....

I gotta say that the American Democracy has weathered a storm....that this election didn't fall in the chaos of having the lawyers battle it out....and the consequences of that action...Now let us see what Bush can do with the political capital he has been given..let us hope that he shows his compassionate conservative side....also let us hope that Wolfie and crew are put in a back office somewhere and given a pair of scissors and some paper to make cut out dolls...

America has given GW a trust to move this country forward albeit on a more conservative basis....Let see if he is Big enough to fill those shoes..

The one thing Bush said that struck a chord with me was when Bush gave the reason why he was oposed to Stem Cell Research...it isn't that he was against the science but was concerned with ETHICS....that we have to balance science with ethics...

Clowd 11-03-2004 10:32 AM

Too bad he doesn't practice what he preaches.. He doesn't show any ethics by invading Iraq.

Tabs -- for the record, W has provided massive funding for stem cell research; he's against embryonic stem cell research (that involves aborting fetuses).

But this "Bush is against stem cell research" lie (I was going to call it a canard, but a spade is a spade, it's a flat out lie) has been one of the Dem's favorites b/c even though it's patently, demonstrably false to anybody who looks into the issue at all, it's easy to get people to believe if they've already bought into Kedwards "Christopher Reeve will walk again" stem-cell hooey.

But, other than that, carry on.

OPS whether or not Bush supports stem cell research was not the point I was making ....but his concern about the "ethics" of the matter.

That in a sum is at the heart of the conservtive victory...Integrity, ethics and responsibility are what Americans voted for....and the rest who didin't vote Bush will burn in He11 anyway once the rapture happens

JP are you a scientist? While stem cells are certainly several years off interms of yielding results the now 2nd term President's restriction to use of the current "line" will certainly set us back even further...

Stem Cells are far from "hooey" they are the cells upon which you and everyone else are built and hold potential that which we cannot even dream of....

I for one would like to see us work on some of these devistating diseases that effect the living breathing people of this earth instead of wasting valuable effort and money on getting old folks bigger boners....

This is a concern I also share; besides where one might fall on the use of human embryo for reasearch, there is a grave concern of baby farming for profit.

Best sometimes to walk slowly and softly into new frontiers.

Hey, don't worry about stem cell research. Us Californians' have agreed to foot the bill to the tune of $3,000,000,000, and when the research pays off, your thanks will be thanks enough while we pay off the debt which will eventually be $6,000,000,000. And don't forget the funding goes to private enterprises so there will be no fiscal return for us.

Oh yeah well I'm gonna invent the cure for cancer & buy Kalyfornya. Give me a break dude. First, there has been ZERO success with embryonic stem cells as obbosed to cells from cord blood which have had success. Second, embryonic stem cells involve a sweet little procedure called partial birth abortion, in which a near birth baby is delivered to the point of it's head being out. At which point the top of the skull is sawed off, the brain sucked out and the material at the base of the brain is "harvested." Sound like a good time?

Island, did you say something about ETHICS?

"Pluripotent stem cells are isolated from human embryos that are a few days old. "

There is no head to saw off on few days old embryos, and no partial abortions needed. Mule, instead of spending your week-ends holding posters in front of abortion clinics, you should learn a little bit about science ;)
