Recently someone posted a video link of a car going airborne, up and over backwards. I have someone who doesn't believe this is possible but I cant find the link. Anyone??

Are you talking about the Mercedes that flipped at LeMans a couple years ago? Or the Porsche GT1 that flipped at Road Atlanta?

KevinP73 11-10-2004 01:47 PM

It may have been the mercedes. a link to either would be appreciated.

I have a copy of it. send me an email and I'll send it to you. it's like 1.2 megs. If it's the same video you're talking about, the track is at Braselton, GA and it's the #26 mobil car (don't know driver, it sounds like the guy is saying "yota gomas" but I don't know), does a complete flip and the back end smacks the ground and explodes. then hits the outside wall.

The GT1 incident in Atlanta will forever be referred to as "Pulling a Yannick". Yannick Dalmas left racing after that season - he sure believes it can happen!

Here's a link: http://www.xs4all.nl/~idema/vw/porsche_gt1_crash.htm

Kevin, I hope that one won you a bet you can collect at that fine establishment around the corner from your shop!

You mean the Korean eatery?

Mark Webber managed a backflip at LeMans in a Mercedes in '99. Check pages 240 and 241 in Brian Laban's "LeMans 24 Hours". There is a pretty good photo sequence of the whole thing.
