I think we all grieve with the families of 9/11 victims. I had a few friends and collegues killed and we can only imagine the blow to the spouses, parents, children and siblings..
But I do not understand the media coverage of certain families that are pushing for the passage of this intelligence bill. Moving forward, are not we all in this equally? Why do they have a greater say that the rest of us? How can they be so expert? What I have read, it is being held up for two reasons: 1.) To allow the pentagon to control satellites that would be used in direct support of troops. 2.) Provisions to prove ones citizenship or green card status to get a drivers licence. Hey, I did it at renewal, why not everyone?? Both of which seem pretty common sense to me... |

Those may be the two actual reasons. On the other hand, those may only be the "stated" reasons. You see, one of the overall problems with federal legislation is that the title of a bill does nothing to control its content. In many states, including mine, the title of a bill boxes its subject matter. If a bill is entitled "A bill relating to the increase of the XXXX tax from $25 to $50," then the only thing that the bill can accomplish is to raise that particular tax to $50. With federal legislation, that bill could also award $50 billion in highway funds to the State of Texas. And it is common for good legislation to get held up because someone is craving pork.

Plus, remember, it took the 9/11 families being very forceful to even form the 9/11 commission....if you recall, there was quite a bit of resistance.
I guess because of this, this bill (based on suggestions of the 9/11 commission) is ultimately the "fruits" of their labor. |

I like the part that it has been stalled by two Republicans. Seems some compromise has been reached on the satelite issue.. People thought we were electing a king for president, and we did not. Congress passes the bills, and they have their own parlimentary shenanigans to go through... |

Some people will say or do anything for attention.
