Powder coating an exhaust manifold.

I know you guys will know about this. It's not the p-car, but a Honda VFR750F. V4 motorcycle. Most of the exhaust is down in the front tire wash, and even tho it is inside the fairing, it stays filthy.

I am looking to clean it up, and make it easier to clean.

Will the powder coating survive the heat? I have done this to valve covers, and they took it. I have access to a media blast box, and could get them clean prior.

Has anyone had any luck with this?

Michael.

The temperature extremes will determine which type of coating can be applied successfully. There are High-Temp (1400 D)powder products. You just have to find a service that can offer it.

There is a world of difference between the temperature ranges of a valve cover and an exhaust manifold. In the olden days, we couldn't stop MC pipes from bluing from the heat, even though they were double-walled. I coating that would survive that kind of heat would be a special coating indeed.

Oh, we did used to paint them with hi temp paint, but that needed to be re-applied at times.

Here's a 2000 degree Ceramic Metallic coating that can supposedly be applied at home with no baking: http://www.cermakrome.com/Exhaust.htm

May be worth and inquiry.

Thanks, Rick, I'll look at that. I forgot to mention that these are black pipes, not chromed, and are normally hidden from view. I was thinking of doing them the same red as the body or black (as they are now).

Jet hot type ceramic coatings are magic. THey never turn color and on the 1850 hp Buckwheat Racing Mustang , are cool to the touch by the time the car gets back to the pits.Buckwheat Racing Mustang
