Clothes Dryer Help Needed

I think we have an expert here on pretty much anything so here’s a curly one:

I have a (roughly) 5 year old Hoover Clothes Dryer - the sort with the round lint filter on the door. The good lady wife has overheated it a couple of times (putting in too few clothes) and it has gone into auto shut off. Normally after a cool down period it is good to go – but not this time. I can’t get it to fire up.

Do these things have a manual reset or a fuse or something that goes? Or is it dead?

THERE IS A THERMAL FUSE IN THE EXHAUST TUBE,WHICH IS NON-RESETTABLE, YOU REPLACE IT, ABOUT 3-5 DOLLARS, CHECK VENTING FOR EXCESS LINT BUILDUP,THIS IS WHAT IS PROBABLY CAUSING THE OVER HEATING, CLEAN VENTING................

Thanks alot!

While we are talking about dryers, is there anything I can put in the exhaust outlet to prevent birds from building a nest in it?

On second thaoughts - mine does not have an exhaust tube. It's the type where the air is vented through the front door.

Any clues where the thermal fuse is on those?

They make driver vents that look like a "smokestack". No way for birds to get in. Have an internal door to keep insects out as well...

Mine vents through the wall, and I installed a cover with 'vanes' that are opened by the air pushing through. Something like $8 at ACE H/W

Mine dries much more efficiently after installing the dual-in, dual out sport vent.

I'm thinking of the bigger aftermarket door for a larger intake next.

You haven't dried clothes until you've installed the oversized pulley on the motor to speed up the drum. Then you're ready for the high volume fan and the direct injection combustion heat source. Sure the clothes all come out black and smoking, but they dry in 20 sec! ;)

What oil should I use in my dryer? I heard it will leak if I switch to synthetic.

Anyone interested in a group buy on fabric softener sheets?

Maybe put an E-ram unit in the vent line. 6 extra HP and dryer clothes!

Has anyone checked with Steve Wong yet to see if he can re-map a chip for one with a vent-bypass?

Don't forget the tensioner upgrade, Vic.

I'm planning on putting a cool-collar on mine in the new year. ;)

Yeah righto you blokes - enough fun is enough fun. . . . .

I found the thermal fuse and bypassed it with some paper clips and some electrical tape. Works like a charm. It will probably blow up the shed one day but at least my smalls will be dry over the christmas break.

Haha that's the aussie way, do everything half arsed!

Geez victor,

At least order a new one or make sure someone's watching that dryer untill you get a new fuse... Thats fire waitin' to happen...

did you seriously find the fuse? I went through this recently and think I can help. I found this site http://www.repairclinic.com/ to be a GREAT help. I replaced dryer fuse, motor and belt, door switch on washer, seal on fridge door and various other annoying crap that usually necessitates a visit from repair guy.
