Imagine cleaning those things!

bryanthompson 02-14-2005 11:46 AM

No kidding, you'd probably have to floss 'em every few days.

porcupine911 02-14-2005 11:50 AM

there's a video of them running that car. i bet a google/pelican search would find it.

strange looking -- function over form as they say. are those 14's? :) i suppose you could put a faux-sidewall over the "tire" openings to give it a more traditional look.

RickM 02-14-2005 11:58 AM

Michelin, huh?

Sure looks like a BBS center.

Overpaid Slacker 02-14-2005 12:11 PM

do they come in spinners?

Who wants to bet on how quickly they become the unobtanium status symbol for "tuner" cars.

I think they are Fikse Profil 10's.

those things are muFugly! they look especially wrong on that audi.

I'm a form follows function follower, let's see some lap times.

djmcmath 02-14-2005 08:05 PM

How do the weights compare to similarly sized air-filled tires and standard wheels? Is there any traction advantage? I don't really care how ugly it is, if it's fast. :)

GettinHeadStuds 02-14-2005 09:50 PM

Cool...very cool.

red-beard 02-15-2005 05:35 AM

How would those work in the winter in the snow? Or off road?

asphaltgambler 02-15-2005 05:38 AM

Gimme a set-o-those in 24"s please

Z-man 02-15-2005 07:17 AM

Very interesting technology. But for what application would these tires be used?

I suspect that the flexible spokes would prevent the tire/wheel from being a track wheel due to sloppier handling.

And I think the tire/wheel wouldn't be very effective in the snow.

As others have alluded, I suspect they will find a place with the 'Bling Bling' crowd.

For me, air is still cheaper than flexible spokes. :D

djmcmath 02-15-2005 07:52 AM

I think that "normal" people would cover over the sides to keep grit or snow or whatever from getting in. I bet that would really screw with your wheel balancing. :)

fuelie600 02-15-2005 07:56 AM

Seems like these tires/wheels would suck without sidewalls. Stick a stone, some ice or snow inside one of the tires.

Hmmm... Nice ride now!

I'll pass.....

Some clothespins and a couple of playing cards in the spokes.......

:D

I do like the concept, though. (Thanks Marc)

I'm surprised that the "spoke" design isn't more of a spiral . . .. hard braking (or accel) would wind those up, a bit.

Just think of the rain-tire possiblities . . . talk about an "opened tread" design potential.
