Tie wearing folks
 

Ok, who puts on the facade day in, day out at work? I rarely wear a suit anymore b/c, they no longer fit.:( Who irons their own attire? Just curious.

Jeans & a button-down or polo every day for me unless I have a client meeting or interview.

Polo shirt and Dockers everyday.

I bought a suit for my new job 5 years ago...so far I've only worn it to weddings.

I brought suits and ties with me when I moved from upstate NY to AZ four years ago. Haven't worn either.

the facade? unless you show up for work naked, you are making some sort of statement.

i usually wear a suit, as i would rather be over dressed than under. and if they fit, they are as comfortable as anything else that is legal to walk down the street in...

Very true. They are not like women's clothing (or so my wife tells me).

Trousers pleated and cuffed every day with a long sleeved shirt. Always roll the sleeve cuff up a bit for the comfortability.
Although I am definitely more comofrtable with jeans and a polo shirt, there is something about dressing a little nicer that makes you feel a bit more important....no matter how insignificant you are. :(

Oh...I press my own clothes every morning before work. Even if they're fresh from the cleaners. Must be some kind of mental remnant from my days in the Corps. SmileWavy

I'm a computer programmer. I wear jeans (sometimes shorts in summer), and t-shirts, hawaiian shirts, or a sweater for cooler weather. A good suit that is well tailored is certainly comfortable, but my clothes are cheaper.

Alas, a couple of years ago, the big-wigs on mahogany row decided that our company needed to look more professional. Since then, I've been wearing dress slacks & shirt and a tie Monday through Thursday, with Fridays being casual day (collared shirt, slacks or jeans). Summertime we all allowed to wear business casual Monday through Friday.

As a computer geek who only very rarely meets with folks outside the company, I do not understand the need to wear a tie to work. Part of my gripe is that whenever I stop to buy something at a store after work, I am constantly asked where things are in the store - I suppose being tall and wearing a tie means that I must be someone in authority. :rolleyes:

I suppose that's mroe information than you ever wanted to know about my day to day wardrobe. :D

Computer geek as well. The thing is, in my situation, I am frequently meeting with vendors and consultants. No, I never meet actual customers (at least in an official sense...I run in to them on a daily basis), but I appreciate that I don't have to wear a suit. At the other end of our complex is one of our many call centers, and those people are occasionally allowed to wear jeans. This being our corporate headquarters, I feel it cheapens our image to vendors and to other employees who are in from across the country (and are not allowed to wear jeans, ever).

If we were more of a pure tech firm, I think jeans would be okay. But in our business, I think that business casual is the lowest we should go.

Those aren't the only two options. I could be wearing a thong or going cammo.

Pleated, duffed slacks. LS dress shirt, normally white, never flashy or dark. Good necktie, top collar unbuttoned and tie slightly loose, unless I'm meeting with bigshots. Prefer cowboy boots, but usually wear dress shoes. Shirt sleeves usually rolled up.

Jeans and boots with button-down shirt on Fridays. Button down is also my favorite dress shirt collar too, but I wear half-n-half.

Those of you who think dress clothes are uncomfortable are apparently guessing, or not buying the proper clothes. Fact is, dress clothes can be about as comfortable as pajamas. Anybody use "braces" (suspenders)? See, with braces, you can allow the waist to be a bit looser. With good dress slacks (wool, of course, with silk or satin lining), and braces, you feel just about as comfortable as if you were naked. Maybe moreso. And the necktie is not the binding problem. It's the shirt. Get a half-inch bigger collar.

Shorts and a T shirt, unless I have a meeting - then I wear some type of footwear as well.

For work, I won't buy a pair of pants for more than $15. They get ruined to quick. I ee customers about 50% of the time - if I wore a tie into some of those plants eighter they would cut it off or I would end up strangling myself with it. I also do a bunch of public speaking - sometimes I wear jeans and a sweater or Kwaki's and a polo - no one ever really seems to care what you wear provided you aren't soaked in vomit and you don't have any flesh besides your neck or arms showing (thats for guys).

Slacks, dress shirt and tie five days a week. Sometimes a suit if I'm doing a presentation or something.

The org chart says I'm in charge of some computer people (although they would beg to differ), so I'm supposed to look like I'm in charge. ;)

Wranglers, Ariat Ropers, t-shirt, sweatshirt, Carhart and my Baileys 10X, ain't that a great job?

Dress shirt, slacks, nice shoes (shined weekly), etc.

Fridays are a bit looser and technically I'm supposed to where a tie. It's a public job but I don't ever deal with the public. I agree - it's more comfortable most days than jeans are unless it's a summer day and I'm wearing some wool slacks. The tie (which I never wear) can screw up the comfy a bit but since I never wear it...My coworker does - he's stiff. I'm not. ;-)
