bomb? at capitol
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050411/us_nm/congress_incident_dc_5
They have not yet revealed the contents of the suitcase. I imagine this guy will be getting a new suitcase full of clothes courtesy of the government. No charges or hint of charges to be filed after three hours. I find it somewhat unbelievable that they would do all this and then blow one up on the spot, after they determined there was no explosive in it. |
I guess it was just his clothes and other possesions.
Apparantly it was just some chinese immigrant who was trying to protest his immigration status. |
Heaven forbid it was a Tumi. Those suitcases can cost $2,000. :D

Just a thought.
Chinese guy standing in front of tanks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiananmen_Square_protests_of_1989 we applauded him Chinese guy standing at our Capitol http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/washpost/20050412/pl_washpost/a43957_2005apr11 public applauded the police |
It is always a good thing to communicate with police officers.

Please try this type of stunt in Bejing or Moscow and see what their reaction is! They would shoot him then run the suitcases over with a tank then deliver the pieces to the Embassy. Cannot say that I disagree with them either. Compare apples to apples. Man standing up to the tank was in a repressive country. Here we allow free speech. There you would be thrown in a prison for posting a post like this. Here you can say what you wish. Whole different kettle of fish... JoeA |
So what is the charge Joe? And why a prison sentence?
Also the report said they determined there was no explosive and then blew it up. What if there had been biological stuff in there? I would think they should rethink their procedures. |
How much security training do you have? I have a fair amount of training in this area (was Safety and Security officer for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Saudi) and would have done the same thing they did. Course the Chinese in his home country would have shot him...
They used an X-ray machine and saw something that "looked like a possible explosive device" so they took no chances and blew it up. This turned up to be a CD or DVD player but PanAm 103 was brought down with a "radio like devise" that then exploded. All he had to do was talk to them, tell them what he wanted and open his bags to show them there was nothing to worry about in the bag, but no, he wanted to be on the news and make a splash. Charge... how about threatening a govt employee. Why? Tell me how you would have felt if a guy was right outside your office, refusing to talk to Police and with two large bags of holding who knows what. They then find something that looks like a bomb after this idiot refuses to talk to anyone but the President. You bet that the people in the Capital were threatened. That should be enough to hold him until they find some other charges. Prison would give him time to think about the folly of his ways and keep him from doing it again for a while, unless you would like to invite him to live with you for a while?? JoeA |
A small device is all that is necessary to bring down a plane. That same device here would do no more than be a bang. I think it is ill conceived to blow something up without knowing more.
He told them what he wanted. No report that he was asked to open his suitcases. This could be a non-English speaking tourist with marginal grasp of English. Your conjecture that he wanted to be on the news is just that. Sure I'll take him in. Better treatment than throwing every non-English tourist unfamiliar with our customs into prison. |
Ah yes...I'm sure the Chinese who show up at their own capitol and demand to see their president are treated well. A Chinese custom? I don't think so.
|
Did not mean to imply that. But what if he has been taught that freedom can be found in the US and Washington is the place to go and the President can solve anything. Wouldn't he do precisely this?
Doesn't it seem a liitle odd that he wanted to see the President and went to the Capitol and not the White House. I think that implies a little ignorance on his part. |
