Black Audi at Monterey Hyatt & R Gruppe

I would like to set the record straight after reading all the misinformation on this board.
My name is Roger Grago and I was the one who organized the R Gruppe event in Monterey this last weekend. I made all the arrangements with the Hyatt which included having them block off the racket club parking lot with six LARGE traffic cones which were in place when I arrived Thursday afternoon at 4:00. Those traffic cone remained across the entrance to the parking lot for the entire weekend. This arrangement for parking was made at last years event as well.
Black Audi's statement of no cones or no sign of the lot being closed of is a misstatement of the facts. I will be happy to post the photos I took with some of them showing the cones in place with the dates on the photos as soon as I get them back from the developer (still 35mm film).
I was unfortunate that this posting has gone to the point it has. The R Gruppe members were disappointed that we could not take out annual photo. Cris was venting his frustration and I think rightly so. We certainly have gotten over it because it is not that big a deal.
So many like to throw dirt at the R Gruppe when ever they get a chance, so be it. But, as far as I know anyone who has really been to one of our events or has meet our members know that the trash talk is not true. The truth be known ask Tabs how many offers of help he has refused from R Gruppe members to help him get his 69 911S back on the road. This even after all the bashing he has done to the R Gruppe on this and the Early 911S Registry board. The R Gruppe welcomes all Porsche's and car enthusiast to most of all our events. Those of you out there who love to throw the dirt, join us at an event some time and see what the real story is.
All the best!

Roger - sometimes cones aren't enough. Maybe a large sign would have helped relay the msg. of the R-Gruppe's intent. Kinko's is your friend at times like this.

About R-Gruppe: I once heard no one with a car newer than 1973 is admitted. Is that true?

If I buy a '73 or earlier 911 can I hang out with you sniveling women too? For christ sakes can't you take those pictures and photoshop in another 911 where the Audi wagon is and get on with this? I'm glad that people that own water cooled p-cars don't act like this.

In the fall of 2004 I very seriously went on the Registry Board and asked for help in giving me references as to where I could take my 911S to have it restored....I got ZERO response Noone gave a single reference...the only person I have any regard for over there is SWBSAM.....

I even PM'ed Rick Cabell and Jeff Smith to no avail....my PM's were not even read by them...

Grago...take some responsibilty for the BS that you boyz spew...don't white wash it....

I put my chips on the table a long time ago... I call a spade a spade and don't try to idealize it...I knew all along that the idealization over at the Registry/..... had to be acknowledged or ultimately there was no room over there for me to be and in the end I was right your intolerence of nonconformity to the program came to the forefront...and U slamed the door..... so I have nothing good to say about you boyz...

Ouch!

Snobbish groups such as RGruppe give all Porsche owners a bad name. You claim to welcome all Porsches, and yet I have the funny feeling that you would sneer at my water cooled 951. It wouldn't be so bad if you only exersized your superiority in the private cult meetings, but on a public web forum? Step outside yourself, re-read through those threads, and then honestly tell me that you don't all sound like a bunch of *******s.

Porsche owners have always had a stigma surrounding them just like any high-line car like the BMW, MB, Ferrrari, Cadillac et al.
It comes with "owning" a car with a hood crest, 3 pointed star, prancing horse or roundel. It's been that way since I was a kid who bought his first clapped out '71 914 off the "not-running" line of a used car lot in early 1974.

My brothers in arms with Big Block Chevelles, Barracudas, Chargers, etc. and Mustangs generally gave me a wide berth "considering" my car before they knew ME. Once they got over my choice of cars, it was business as usual since I was a gearhead and knew as much about their choice of cars as they did and most times even more. It was, however, not a reciprocal arrangement. My car was still strange and weird to them and they didn't really want to know.

Ironically, most of these cars are worth so much that these same guys would have to be wealthy to afford their own cars today.

And, last, but not least: The Audi (TT) was designed by a founding R Gruppe member, Freeman Thomas, who is one of the of the nicest people you would ever hope to meet.

Tabs tell the whole story

Tabs,
You might want to tell the whole story. For well over a year
several serious offers were made to you to help you with your 69 911S. Including two by me. And what was your response? Never ending slamming and reticule of the R Gruppe by you. Which seems to be your personal crusade. Do you remember the analogy I used when I emailed you? "If you poke a sleeping dog over and over again with a sharp stick, don't cry rabid dog when it finally fights back."
In my opinion your requests for advise where not taken seriously because of your constant baiting and poking to get a response continued even more venomous after the offers had been made. Did you not know how to handle a genuine offer for help? It seems to me you reacted in the only way in which you feel you have control, reticule. And you don't understand why Rick and Jeff wouldn't help?
And to all you others out there who what to throw dirt, go ahead the R Gruppe is used to it. But, the invitation still stands to all you out there even Tabs, who has gotten this invitation several times before. Join us at one of your events see what the facts are and if you still think we a arrogant ***holes so be it. I think you will go away with a different opinion. Or you can sit back and hide behind a keyboards as Tabs does and continue to throw dirt at us because you just don't want to know the facts.
All the best!

NOTICE:

Gatherings at my garage anytime anyone wants to stop by. One hour notice after 10:00 pm, please.
We discuss anything mechanical. No drinking, no politics, no religion and no brand slamming. Chauvanist pigs are welcome although keep the banter down to a low din as there may be ladies present (clothes on-sorry). Smoking allowed as I'm not on the government radar. Sorry, the Pinball game had to move out to take on another project so Bingo and Twister are all I have.

Cable TV on premises and spare bedroom upstairs for all-nighters.

Beat, bang, weld, cut, wrench, wash and wax all under reasonably qualified supervison so you don't hurt yourself.

My establishment is a kinder and gentler garage.

Best,

Tom

Great, I'll be over in 15 minutes with my Audi and a 6-pack. It needs an oil change.

Yes offers were made both seriousily and semi seriousily...HOWEVER each time I said that FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS precluded my restoring my 911 at that time...and finally when I was ready to do something ....I got zip...

I was slamming the .......long before those offers were made....the orginal arguement with the....was over to modify or not....the ...took me way too seriousily and it grew from that...If you notice Grago I pick no indivdual member to ridicule on a consistant basis...however there have been occasions where I have called indivduals for doing something less than smart or just plain silly...As a matter of fact I get along perfectly fine with the Fuerher of the organization #2 hisself...

YOU ALSO FORGET SO EASILY THAT I HAVE SAID ALOT OF GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE ..........as well. If it seems that I am on a Crusade...iand continue to say the same things over and over..it is because my orginal observation hasn't been taken to heart NOR LISTENED TO....If the .......would have listened and modified or just acknowledged, I would have gone away and we would all be happy campers...much as I am on this Board...Hmmm how long has it been that I have been silent about the....... until the subject was brought up here by someone else....think about it Grago...your capable...

Now Grago....how many people have you heard on these Boards and in this thread that are unhappy with the ....... does that mean that all these comments have no merit...NO I think the .......needs to listen to what the Porsch community has to say....and once you do listen attiitudes towards the ........will change....These boyz aren't wasting their bandwidth to lie to U....

The other thing you fail to remember is how many time I have dissed U....the answer is None......how many times have I taken the time to answer your questions or now accusations in a reasdoned, welll thought out, and respectfull manner....everytime.....now that should tell you something shouldn't it....about just how bad of a boy I really am...

You can drink but it's ABC "OFF" premises. Drunk mechanics are bad for the image.

I'd like to know who owns that black Audi wagon in the background. It was parked there all day Sat after we got back from the track. He sure ruined it for our "ducks in a row" photo shoot.

I was in my room later changing when I saw the owner drove out then come back in and parked right next to the silver GT and start to take a photo. I ran back down to see who it was but he was gone. Anyone knows who it was?

All tips or info will remain confidential. I just wanna know who that was. I wanted to rip him a new one.

Every year, I take pride in being able to line up those ducktailed cars for our traditional "ducks in a row" photo shoot. This year we couldn't do it because of the black Audi wagon. Am I pissed, hell yeah! should I rip him a new one, maybe not to that extreme but i definitely would have loved the opportunity to say "hello" to him had I caught up with him in the parking lot.
That's pretty drastic, if you ask me. To publically state that you'd like to tear someone a new one (I think he's referring to a new a-hole) because the guy parked in the 'wrong' lot - I truly have a problem with folks who say things like that. Maybe if the gathering were a bunch of snot-nosed, pimple faced Honda ricer boyz, or a thug motorcycle gang, I can understand that type of response. But from a group of supposedly intellectual, 'refined' Porsche owners? Can't believe it.

And this:

Chris --
If you got the plate # it can be traced. In Oregon a PI or a lawyer can do it if they have a good reason (defined by the law). Not sure what is needed in Calif.
First off, that is illegal. Unless said Audi was involved in a criminal act, there is no basis for requesting personal information about the driver. Secondly, had I been in this situation and found out someone even suggested to do such a thing, I would be seriously considering taking legal action. BAW has a terrific attitude about all this - I don't know if I'd be as calm as him.

Sure, the lot was 'reserved' for R-Gruppe, and the Audi 'spoiled' the group shot. Yes, Cris and others in R-Gruppe have a right to be upset that the lot was 'tainted' by a non-RGruppe car. But that gives no right for anyone to threaten or bad mouth the owner of the audi! Even if Mr. BAW parked there knowing there was something going on, that still doesn't give anyone the right to say, "I sure want to rip him a new hole."

That is my biggest complaint of the way certain R-Gruppe members felt and what they posted on their forums. That is way beyond any elitist attitude or exclusivity the club may have - it is downright inappropriate and offensive.

Ok, let me put it into a different perspective: if someone kills, hurts, rapes someone in my family, I believe I have a right to say, "I want to rip him a new one." If someone keyed my car, or deliberately ruined my front lawn, I'd say I have a right to say, "You jerk - you will pay for this. I have your lic. plate and will be taking further legal action" However, if someone parks in a parking lot that is reserved for a special event, I do not see any justification to want to 'rip him a new hole' or to run his plates to find out where he lives.

That is all.
-Z-man.
