If it wasn't for bad luck, you guys wouldn't have any luck at all! Are you on the Gulf side or seaside?

Jims5543 07-06-2005 10:10 AM

I am going to take a stab and say he is along the Gulf of Mexico.

This is unreal, how many storms already this season. At least this will only be a Cat 1 storm so it should mot do too much damage.

Targa, be safe. I learned a lot last year and have made a lot of preperations over the winter for this year.

Ya-hoo!!! I'm better prepared this year with tne new shop to store all my cars in, so I'm gonna get a new board and hit the surf!!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1120670071.jpg

Heh. I'm in Gainesville, half way between either coast. Got 2 of the 4 last year...

Got a generator this year (and a few extra boxes of buck shot... gotta keep the generator now that I have it) so between that and the extras I got last year I should be good.

How come every year they show people buying out all the plywood at Home Depot when a hurricane comes? What do you guys down there do every year? Throw the plywood out from last year?

Moneyguy1 07-06-2005 10:50 AM

HUgh

I wondered about that too...

I have wondered that too. I have had the same 3/4" plywood since 1999 when Hurricane Floyd looked like it was going to wallop us. I still have the same 7500 watt generator as well.

This year, I just had Hurricane panels installed on my office and a 15KW Standby generator. My house is in the process of getting the same. I am ordering Panels and buying a 15KW generator for it as well. I had to make sure my office is go to go first.

I also set up an internet fax line and bought a Cellular Card for my laptop so I can get my business up and running ASAP.

As far as new construction. A house cannot pass a final inspection for a CO unless it has shutters so I am at a loss as to why everyone runs to b uy more plywood.

I did hear reports from Palm Bay Florida that people were throwing out their Plywood after the season was over last year. Can people be that stupid? You dont have to answer.

Hence, my reason for not being in Florida right now. Although the house and Porshce are sold, I am waiting out some of the hurricane season for the move. Looks like I made the right decision. I might as well enjoy one last summer of So Cal!

Best of luck to you all. Hopefully you willl avoid any real problems this season.

Ah paul - you will miss out on all the hysteria!

I kept all my plywood from the past years. I'm NOT standing in THAT line again. Actually I have been waiting for the company I contracted this year to install storm panels. We are scheduled for install for 7/14 IF the materials are shipped on time. Seems they have been slammed with requests and the manufacturer is WAY behind on shipping orders. I'll be glad. I hate to sound like a whoosie but I'm getting to damn old to be dragging around 4x8 sheets of 3/4" plywood anymore. last year almost killed me. This one looks like Charlie did last year. man some people still don't have it back together from last year. Oh and yeah Jeremy and I are on the Gulf coast.

targa911S 07-06-2005 11:52 AM

Home Depot was slammed last year when people returned generators too.....duh!

JeremyD 07-06-2005 11:58 AM

My house from space - when they come close - we leave...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1120676281.jpg

Of course, my car is in pieces - at least my heads are safe in NV!

Jims5543 07-06-2005 11:58 AM

What we did here is help each other out. 3 of us at the office went to each others house and installed plywood / shutters. We didnt break our backs and the houses got done VERY fast.

I still have plywood and have been trying for months to get shutters/ panels. I have toyed with getting a GC license and starting up a shutter business. These guys are booked for 3 months installing shutters.

Jeremy if it gets to it, you may store some things at my place. I'm on high ground ( appropriately) so I will not be forced to go because of flood. Now if the wind blows big...we are all screwed. Just so you know the space is here for ya.
