Florida: What to see and do?
I am going on vacation to Miami next month and want to make sure that I see the best stuff and places. I have booked the hotel and plane flights. I know I want to experience the beaches and the night life and I certaintly don't want crappy weather. Is the weather usually good in September? Recommendations?

It rains everyday here in the summer, but only in the afternoon and usually only lasts an hour long.
South Beach is unlike any place you have ever seen. As far as night life, try to get in Crowbar and Space. But there are 100's of great clubs right on the beach. |
Your in the Heart of Hurricane Season. Keep your fingers crossed.
I will be in Miami the weekend of the 23rd with the wife for a romantic getaway. Its our 16th wedding anniversary and we did not get to celebrate or go away last year due to ducking and weaving from 4 hurricanes. What to do? Depends on what you want. Once you see the beaches you may never want to leave. Topless sunbathing is alowed and widely participated in. The Nightclubs are awesome. Crowbar and B.E.D. The new trend is to buy a VIP pass for $60. This gets you right in without waiting in line. Keep in mind the clubs do not get hot until after midnight. Sleep accordingly. I do not know much about you so its hard for me to suggest what to do. Go to Key Largo and go Snorkeling in the Johnathan Dickinson State park (underwater) See the statue of Christ under water. If you like engineering marvels, go see the Coral Castle a 100lb man built the whole thing and its pretty wild to see. Touristy? Go do an Airboat ride in the Everglades. Or over on Lincoln Avenue there is an Amphibius Bus tour of the rich and famous of Miami. My game plan next month? Pray for no Hurricanes party at night and sleep on the beach all day. Have a good time. |
Rent a car and come up to N. Florida - check out the springs like the Silver River (Ocala, Sivler springs/wild waters) the Rainbow river (Dunnellon) or up here in High Springs with me at Ginnie/Blue or the Itchetucknee.

"John Pennekamp" State Park. Great dive site. a little crowded at times but still a nice place |
Oops!! Johnathan Dickinson is in and around Sebastian Inlet. My Bad.
Pennekamp is in Key Largo, my apologies. |
IF you want to see some Porsche stuff go up to gunnar racing they rebuild a lot of vintage Porsche race cars. The place is pretty awesome. It is up near west palm beach. Call before going up there to make sure the museum is open. They have a web page you could find. Oh and it'll be hot and humid.

Its Penekamp and you better have a good handle on you stomach. It's a puke extractor out there...
At the end of September its the inaugural CHRA Vintage races at Homestead (come see me race !). In SoBe, you can have a great (read overpriced) meal at Tantra, Tuscan Steak, NoBu and at the Blue Door. All are very nice with lots of pretty people around. If you like touristy things, go to the Parrot Jungle, Viscaya, Spanish Monastery, ... For shopping, go to Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise (west Ft. Lauderdale) or Dolphin Mall in Miami/Doral. Tell us what you like to do and perhaps we can guide you a bit better. |
For the best of white-trash American "culture" drive from the coast inland to Orlando along Highway 192. Make sure to check out "Gator World" in Saint Cloud and pretty much any shop in Kissimmee. For the truly brave, you may even consider stopping at that one little trailer park in the middle of nowhere north of Yeehaw Junction (yes, there really is such a place). Scary.
