How are Pelicans rated?
As a newbe to PP (one month) I'm overwhelmed with all the information that's so readily available here. I've been a Porsche owner for over 30 years and wish I'd had this resource available over those years. I've already gotten more valuable, time saving information from some members.
My question is to find out where I can learn more about the Pelicans. How are the designations of junior or senior member arrived at? What do they mean? How do you get one of those cool animations or images under your member name? Are there Pelican events or gatherings beyond PCA events and other clubs? Is there a source for more information on the Pelicans? |

Hey man, go to user cp up top and to profile. You can add an avatar and after 100 posts (I think), you can change your member status to whatever suits you. Some people call for meets or drives in their areas, but there are no worldwide Pelican sponsored events.

Junior + < 100 posts, serior => 100 posts, doesn't mean you know anything (ask me how I know). Use the search feature, you'll find and incredible amount of info. If you haven't already, post pics of your car (No. 1 rule). Locals organize local car runs. Post and initiate a local get to gether. Big rule, be polite and no profanity. People get banned for that. Welcome!

Yes, there is one on each door. I got them in San Diego at the Johnson's Dealership. It was many years ago but I've seen similar ones in auto stores sold as door guards.
This motor came out of an 86 Targa. I may have assumed it was an SC. I really don't know when the SC's stopped. The motor has nice looking polished valve covers and a K&N air filter. I'm planning to run Mobile-1 synthetic in it. We're adding a later modle Carrera oil cooler too. |

Stable-mate

You guys have funny looking cactus in Prescott. There's talk of an "End of Triple Digits" gathering among the Phoenix Pelicans when the weather cools off.

I haven't talked to the mech. about oil weight yet? But the motor is going in today or tomorrow and should be ready to crank up by Friday or Monday. I live at 5300 ft but travel to Phoenix, Vegas, San Diego and Colorado fairly frequently. I need to endure 100+ down to 25 depending on my path. What do you recomend. My only concern is the lower end temps when she sits for longer periods between runs (not a daily driver). The oil drainage back from the tank can be a problem if they sit too long with too thin an oil I'm told. What do you think? And yes my quad gets the youngins juiced up when they see it or hear it start up. It's been stroked, jetted and has a FMF Pipe set up so it sounds downright mean. Thanks for the note. |
Sounds like if she is pre 96 than a 20W50 is in order altough i wonder is 15W40 could be used. Many porsche guys cringe at the thought but I would be willing to bet that in a tight engine you could get away with 15W40 and it would provide a little better gas milage.
I'm too big a pussy to try it in my engine, I use 20W50. |

Pinto - rings in my ear like Hazle calling the cat. Commissioning is important and I would tend to want to stick to one oil. Reason being is that if there ever is a problem, tracing root cause becomes problematic when more variables are added to the mix. The oils are miscible and can be mixed but the 20W30 oil may be too light. If that is an 80's flat 6 then the 20W50 is really the weight you want to go with according to anything I have ever heard, read, seen, smelled and slipped on.
You don't buy Orange juice on price, you don't buy ground beef on price and you sure as heck better not buy house paint on price. So why would you even think that price should be a consideration when selecting an oil which as we all know has a direct influence on engine reliability and performance? |
