Tabs, the most recent Colts (last 3 years or so) are the best guns they have ever made. No joke. Well, maybe the prewar national match guns were nicer, but thats it. The 70 series reissues are friggin incredible. The small letter MKIV 80 series guns (New Roll Mark, NRM) are almost as nice and definitely the best valued 1911 that can be bought.

Anyone have thoughts on Sig's 1911?

I was told that the Kimber 1911 would need to be well broken-in (500-1,000 rounds) with some minor tweaks to make "right". Anyone agree or disagree?

I have two Kimbers; the Combat Carry from the custom shop (love this gun, no issues at all accurate feels sooo good in the hand with the melt down treatment, made in 1995). Recently (as in last Friday) i took delivery of my Kimber Team Match II. Beautiful fit and finish, extremely tight. The break in period is 400-500 rounds before it should be considered reliable. I'm OK with this because it is my IDPA match gun. I expect excellent accuracy. So far, it has failed to feed two rounds out of 150. Not distressing to me yet. I have a practice tonight and expect it to missfeed a few times.
The Kimber Combat Carry (equivalent to the CDP today) is a great gun for the money. I highly recommend it.

I have the Kmber Ultra Carry II in stainless and have never had a single issue. Granted I've probably only shot 800-1200 rounds, but not one problem.

Seems like an odd choice to me. My instructors told us the 1911 was 'doubly effective' because you could get just about the same effect by throwing it as shooting it. Not a highly regarded weapon, in military issue.

Apparently it can be made accurate, but there are so many nice alternatives out there... Glock 21, anyone?

HUUUUUAHHHHHHHHHHH.....U did that to a perfectly GOOOD 1917...Colt 1911...TARGA........ouuuaaaahhhhhh......from your picture it looks like it was 95% gun.....worth about $2500 now.....and U turned it into a $600 gun.....

JTO 09-08-2005 02:42 PM

Techweenie,
The Glock is a good pistol. I have competed with them in the past. But, the G20 and 21 are simply to big around in the butt to get and maintain a good grip. The current crop of 1911 have much better realiability and accuracy than the military issue 1911 you refer to.
My $0.02.

Are you talking about the pictures I posted?

Don't shoot the messanger Tabs, those are not mine.

I merely posted them to provoke a certain response...so, thanks. :)

Shuie..have U bin drinkin the bilge water again....I seen the NEWColt stuff at the Shot Show and it ALL RATTLES...I don't even know if the guns are made in America anymore.....the pre Series 70 1911's all had Forged frames... VS cast....and they are the ones the guys like to use to build their Customs on....and the prewar guns are well the absolute best....

Not being accurate....the 1911 got that rep during and after WW2....first they were mass produced, so time wasn't taken to carefully fit the the gun and after WW2 so many were rebuilt and tolerances went down....the 1911 became the Target Shooters choich of gun for competition before WW2 and there was a reason for that...it's accuracy...

I've said it before the best built guns were made from roughly 1890 to 1917....Guns were still made with the care that pride in workmanship brings...

Relax Tabs it was already reblued badly when I found it. Some clown ran over it with a bottle of super blue. I only paid $650.00 for it to start with. I figured it couldn't hurt to just do it to match the rest of my ponies. They were all pretty sad when I found them with the exception of the 1908 .380 pictured it's factory nickle.

Boy aint that the truth! The 1911 we used while in uniform is not anything like the current crop of .45 auto's out on the market these days.

If Tech has not shot one of the newer versions then his ideas of their accuracy are not correct. A good .45 auto will stand with almost any other pistol these days.
