I'm on dial up. Don't wait for video downloads. So, "Bonzo" is Keith Moon? If so, yeah...what a waste.

Rest In Peace, my brother.

Just looked at my Ludwigs in the attic tonight. Unfortunately, I just needed to move them to trace a cable line.

I'm not a drummer but I am a Zep Head and feel the same pain. I even used to play guitar in a hardcore Zep tribute band called "Physical Stupiditti" that played Zep in a Metallica-like style. Believe it or not the songs held up REALLY well to a super heavy thrashy treatment. I still play Zep on the CD when I drive autocross and I swear it takes 1/2 second off my lap times.

Anybody know what happened to the Bonzo car collection? IIRC it was vast.

A gifted musician for sure, and a key part of the Zep's sound.
Great band.

Dude, break 'em out and pound some skin!
I was a drummer a long time ago, but got my left hand smashed in a swordfight. Had to quit, but picked up guitar a few years later.

If you've got any recordings of your band, I'd love to hear them!
This weekend I did my second ever autocross. I cranked up SRV's Scuttle Buttin and shaved off ten full seconds the first session a few weeks ago. This weekend I tried Rude Mood and did pretty well again. Fast shuffle style blues. I put together a short Autocross CD with "frantic" music that includes Dick Dale, SRV, Zeppelin, and a few others.

I saw them at Hemmerlein Halle in Neunkirchen, Germany in June of 1980. 3 songs into it, after "Nobody's Fault But Mine" Bonham passed out falling backward off the drum riser and they had to stop the concert. Our tickets were good for the Munich concert so we went down there and saw them 2 weeks later. It was in bwetween the European tour and the U.S. tour that he died. Big loss.RIP

John Bonham was a drunken thug....

Now Keith Moon was a character...in his life he was always on stage....once he dress up in an SS uniform and marched up and down in front of Steve McQueens house...to remind him of the movie the Great Escape....

Ah, but 25 yrs on, people -including an entire generation that never "knew" Led Zeppelin- honour his memory and his music.

Will they do the same for you, I wonder?

Ive seen archival footage of JB which reveal him to be a gently well spoken and thoughtful young man, despite the affectations of the time.

And he went out in true rock God fashion.

Vale Bonzo, The Hammer of the Gods.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

I was at the St. Michelle winery last night for Robert Plant's concert. When he announced it had been 25 years to the day, I was shocked. It really doesn't seem that long ago.

The music was great and Robert Plant has seemingly not aged a bit. He still has an amazing amount of energy, and if anything, his voice has matured to the point where he is much more complete as a vocalist than in his Zeppelin heyday.

They did a couple of tributes to Bonham but, unfortunately, the drummer was no Bonzo. The guitarist did his best to emulate Jimmy Page on the old Zeppelin stuff but, as was the case with the drummer, he probably shouldn't have even tried. When they played their new music they were fantastic.

All of that said, I was a bit dissapointed. Not in the music, but in the attitude presented by the performers. It took well over an hour between the warmup band and the headliners. It appeared the roadies had run out of things to do after about 15 minutes of changing everything over, and were trying to look busy as they, and everyone else, waited for the band. Once they did take the stage they only played for an hour before Plant said goodnight. They did play a couple of encores but, all in all, it was a very short set. A little too much of the stuck up rock star approach for me.

Speaking of the warmup band; they were fantastic. Three kids out of Detroit that call themselves "The Sights". I picked up their CD on the way out. Old Gospel and Blues based rock'n'roll; quite unlike what most of their generation is into. Great stuff; maybe there is hope for mankind afterall. Geez, though - they looked younger than my kids. I'm getting old. Has it really been 25 years? Wow.
