Walmart JibJab thread

http://movies.msn.com/movies/JibJab

Kind of sums up may feelings for WalMart.

Mulhollanddose 10-14-2005 01:42 PM

It makes no sense...WalMart wouldn't have a market, or it would have a dwindling market, if the premise they set forth was true...It is not. Poor people should not be forced to pay higher prices so we can have more union controlled sweat-shop assembly lines in America...If anything they prime the economic pumps. The only reason WalMart gets any grief whatsoever is the union propaganda push to shut them down...Chinese and foreign sweatshops are better than what they had before them.

"Chinese and foreign sweatshops are better than what they had before them"
Do tell.

Mulhollanddose 10-14-2005 02:33 PM

No job, no food and no free clothes.

gavinlit 10-14-2005 02:38 PM

Thank the heavens for wallmart and sweatshops. I take it you've had a chat with all these employees and found that they were all naked hungry unhappy people before the sweatshop rolled into town.
How on earth did other coutnries survive before sweatshops.

They didn't survive; or at least not in the numbers they do now.

Remember when DDT was demonized by the enviro-leftists?...The junk-science that they shoved down the third-world's throats actually decreased crop production and increased death by starvation and malaria...You are using the same illogical logic here.

gavinlit 10-14-2005 06:15 PM

"They didn't survive; or at least not in the numbers they do now" Really - so I'd guess that the life expectancy in these countries has increased since the sweatshops have moved in. Or is this just another of your statements of 'fact'.

Don't know anything about the DDT thing you're referring to. I know it's not particularly pleasant stuff but that's about it.

I'm not using 'illogical logic' (interesting choice of words), but merely asking you to support your claim.

DDT was blamed for decreased eagle population. However, the eagles were well into decline _before_ DDT came on the scene. While it was in use (1946-1971) the Eagle population started a come back.

Unless a company enslaves it's workers they are likely much better off. The conditions may be hard for us to stomach, but they choose it over their previous situation, what does that tell you? Saviors, no ofcourse not but they are quite welcome I assure you.

It appears that capitalism has been quite good to whom were formerly a commodity...It is when they, or anybody, stop competing that they suffer...Entitlements and redistribution have become their enemies and those who are productive; but a useful tool to the politician.
