Warren, would love to do the Classic Adelaide in this or another car someday.

AFJ, apologies for hijacking your original thread.

Beautiful car, Chris.

Well Chris, come on down. We're a pretty sociable bunch "down under" and we do love our cars. The 2006 event even has Porsche as the featured marque. It's boring old Ferrari's this year. :D

My appologies to AFJ. A nice car pic and I'm so easily distracted.

A friend owned a series one XKE for about ten years. It was a hoot when it ran, but it was anything but reliable. He was the first I ever heard that age-old Jag description from; he likened it to the brain-dead supermodel of the sports car world. All of your friends are envious as hell when you are seen with one, but they have no idea what your life at home is like.

No apologies necessary, and I appreciate all of the input. It really is a beautiful car. The owner wants $14K for it. If I jump, I will definately offer him less than that for it.

The way I am looking at the car, it has the following going for it:

1. It has been owned by a private collector for years. It was seldom driven.
2. The engine and fuel system have been gone through

The down side: it is a Jag - and all the bad things that do go with them.

Still pondering...

Hi AFJ,

I think the fact that it has been owned by a private collector for years and seldom driven goes more against the car than for it. I would be much happier if it had been driven regularly.

A late 60's gold XKE pulled up next to me at light yesterday. It was mint condition and took my breath away. One of the sexiest cars I've ever seen.

C) A formal introduction to your local jag mechanic who (after talking to you) will call his agent because now he CAN afford that beach house he's always wanted.

D) A REAL test of your patience, your liquid assets and your spouse.

E) A complete new standard / set of tool sizing..........not SAE, not Metric, but Wentworth. Yes that's right. Whatever tools you currently own or plan to purchase have no real application to that car.
Seems the English weren't happy with a "different" car they had to invent a "different" tool sizing to actually work on them.

F) Having a car that looks fast and handles well, but really doesn't.

G) A great driver....................if you buy two because the chances are at least one won't run.

H) A great investment of your time and money who's market value will be @80% less that. :D

Yep..that about sums it up.

I grew up in Jags as the old man had them. Mark X's and so on until he bought the XJ shown below. Thought that they were pretty cool then a friend of his took me for a ride in his S1 E-Type. It was the open highway just before it got dark, in the middle of no-where in NE Oklahoma. Not a soul in sight on the highway...

I remember the sound, the wind and looking over and seeing 145 on the speedo and a crazy grin from the owner. He got it up a bit faster then slowed down and we drove back home. I have never been the same since thank God.
