How much do you smoke?

Save the flames. Just curious how some folks rationalize smoking, how they quit or how they feel about it. I'm really battling here. I've cut way way down to just a few per day, maybe a pack over a weekend. I'm 34 and have done this off and on since college, sometime quitting for up to a year, then falling off the wagon.

I bet I've had the same bag for nearly 2 years..oh wait, you are talking about something else. Sorry.

AFJuvat 11-14-2005 03:07 PM

Can't really rationalize it, I just liked to smoke.

Quit 25 days ago.

I know I physically feel better, mentally, I'm not sure yet.

(I smoked for 20 years)

After 23years I threw them down last feb. My daughter promised me she would quit if I did so away they went. I feel better but sometimes when the stress level gets high it's hard. It was easier to quit drinking and I had be hospitalized from the dt's. You have to be ready in the head to quit or you won't be able to. The funny part is the smell of someone elses smoke doesn't bother me at all. Just lucky I guess.

AFJ keep up the good work if I can do it so can you.

I quit about 45 days ago, have had two cigs since then. I don't plan on more.

This is my second time "quitting", the first I didn't smoke for two years. I'm 29 and I've been smoking since 18. They say that for every year you've smoked it will take a year to recover, so I'm on track to be lung heathy by 40.

I feel so much better, it's incredible.

A couple years ago, I switched from manufactured cigs to rolling my own with Bali Shag rolling tobacco. Great cigs, made me feel much better than the chemical stuff and I only smoked about 5-10 per day because of it.

Honestly I'd also rather spend the money on my car or my woman.

Thanks guys, but how much did you quitters smoke - a pack a day? More, less? I've been told by a doctor friend that I should have no problem, since I don't smoke vry much. My real doctor told me it didn't count as smoking, if it was fewer than six cigarettes per day - yes, he really told me that. I wonder how much you have to smoke to really do damage and how hard it is to quit then.

I smoked about a pack of cowboy killers ( marlboro reds)a day.

tinkerbell 11-14-2005 04:24 PM

I smoked 1-2 packs a day for 5 years and then quit cold turkey. About a year after that, I started smoking again, but only 1 pack a day. I did that for 2 years and quit over a year ago. Haven't smoked since. (well, except for the half of one last weekend and the one hit off bell's the other day) I don't have the urge to go out and buy a pack. Quitting cold turkey was not that difficult for me. I doubt I'll start again, as I've found a better use for my $$$. Not to mention the health benefits-I feel much better than I did when I smoked.

Man, I started smoking these awesome, super light Zhong Nan Hai cigarettes in China and my gf just gave me a carton she found when moving last weekend. They are great. I have two cigarettes left in the pack I have open, gave one pack away and have 6 unopened ones left. I'm tempted to throw them out.

Jays72T 11-14-2005 05:18 PM

Currently smoking about a pack a day +/- and like you have quit now and again. Since I have 2 kids, it's very uncomfortable for me to smoke and have tried quitting using the patch, then gum, and after Thanksgiving I'm going cold turkey.
Hold on, I need to go outside for a smoke.....OK, I'm back.
I like smoking but don't want to influence my kids to smoke plus I'd like to live better and longer. Do yourself a favor, throw them out now.

I smoke 1-2 times a month. Cigars and pipes only. Cigarettes make me feel like crap--even after just one.

tabascobobcat 11-14-2005 06:22 PM

Len convinced me to give it a try (quiting) last winter.
Well, I tried for months and then convinced myself that I can smoke when I am out of state on business or personal travel. I'll go weeks w/out one and then can tear thru a pack in 2 days as soon as I hit the state line on the road. I am gone about a month a year so I only fire up less than 10%. I know, I am still not the brightest bulb on the tree but honestly enjoy tobacco.

Rick

Here, this'll make you feel better about quitting. I smoke about 1.25 packs per day of Camel non-filters, and have done so for 40 years. The only time my consumption increases is when I think about quitting. I have, as you could guess, a chronic, non-productive cough, which probably means there is something down there needing to come out, but I no longer have the lung capacity to get behind it and chunk it out. Obviously, I'm not much of a jogger.

This last Halloween, I suprised myself, blowing out the candles in the three pumpkins we set out for the trick-or-treaters, but then I felt like sitting down for a while. Don't even think about birthday cakes!

I'm one of those "first thing in the morning, last thing before bed" addicts. My rationalization goes something like, "These little fuchers are killing me. Oh, well."

So, Rick, you could quit now, or you could keep smoking and be in this boat twenty years from now. Or worse.

Happy thoughts, :)

Ed

Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!

Unreal. After being away from the midwest I forget that there are people who smoke a pack or more a day. How you guys are still alive is beyond me.

OTOH, I like to smoke when I drink and party. Here in CA that means I have to stick to house parties mostly because the bars are off limits. The last pack I bought was a pack of Davidoffs in Prague and it took me 3 weeks to get through them.

Also, I find that when I smoke the expensive boutique stuff I don't have the ripping urge to smoke the way I do when I smoke any of the big brands.

Love Nat Shermans.

Geeze, somehow I feel like you guys are better friends than all the local Pelicanheads I've personally wrenched with over the years. I'm on my third glass of Maker's Mark tonight and just finished the last smoke in that last open pack I have. I think I'll kill what I have left of the carton or head to NJ for Thanksgiving (where I can't even think of smoking around my folks) - whichever comes first.

I was doing great after the quit smoking thread started around January. Then out of the blue a few weeks ago I started having a couple a day. Now I'm having 5 to 10 a day.

gassy 11-14-2005 08:39 PM

Someone said Maker's Mark. Talk about an addiction...I think I may soley keep them in the black.
Back to smoking talk.
