friendly 911 owners =)

Ya know i just realized something....911 owners are friendly to us liquid cooled guys after all.........when we get our asses kicked by them! Sheesh...this one guy this morning driving a '91 C2 cabriolet was friendly, i asked him what year his car was and he asked what mine was, he said it was beautiful, as was his i told him...then he blew my doors off.... looks like the oil/water war continues between Porsche drivers..

Porsche. Es gibt keinen Ersatz.

i met a very friendly gentleman the other day in a brand new 996, after i whooped him!! he was rather amazed and i am sure dissapointed! i had just pulled up to a light on a 6 lane road next to him, we were the only 2 cars in sight, kind of hard to resist! I slowed down and gave him 3-4 chances and then we met up at the next light(a few miles down the road). His exact opening comment was "holy ****! that thing JUMPS!" I meet all sorts of porsche owners at the shop and there are all types porsche owners, it is really not fair to stereotype them by their paticular model choice. there are only 2 types of porsche owners..lifers..and...non-lifers

You beat a new 996?!? wow!your 951 is not stock right?what are you putting out?

951carter 08-11-2001 07:27 PM

no, it is not stock. i don't have any current dyno figures now though. I will probably spin the wheel soon though, just waiting to install some other parts.

I got to drive my friend's 77 911S recently. Flashed a Boxster but got no flash in return. I don't think there is much Porsche snobbery left out there, just a bunch of non-enthusiests.

ae1969 08-11-2001 08:53 PM

...funny thing ....

today ....I flashed a white 924.....he flashed.....and a friendly wave....

then 20 minutes later....I run into a boxster......flash him.....uhmmmm and I wait....I give ...a slight wave.......and uhmmmm.... nothing.......

go figure.....

Rollins 08-11-2001 08:57 PM

Don't assume it's them being a snob necesarily, some of these guys probably just don't know what a 924/944 is.

Andre 08-11-2001 09:39 PM

How do you flash in the afternoon?or is this all at night? I try to wave and stuff to other porsche drivers but i have no had luck. One lady didn't even look at me, some guy looked at me like i was crazy and had no idea why i was waving to him. One guy was real friends when i drove up to him but its still not a good percentage. The 911 guy that lives somewhere around my town that i see alot always waves and stuff, its an older late 80s early 90s 911, VERY nice car. You can tell the guy is an enthusiast.

In my apartment complex there are a number of porsches. There is a 924S, a 944s2, a boxster, a boxster S, a 935, and a 935 with the Ruf mods to it. The guy with the Ruf doesn't even know the car is a 935. The one with the regular boxster is equally as clueless. Never talked to the one with the 924S. The 944 S2 guy is real cool, knows a lot about 944s in general. The guy with the boxster S is real nice and always gave me a wave or nod when we passed by each other. The guy with the 935 works at the Porsche dealership and is another really cool guy. Knows a lot about all Porsches. His is unbelievable. So that equals out to about 50% being cool.

Rollins, are you the star actor in E.R.?

Rollins 08-11-2001 10:07 PM

If I was then I would own all those Porsches http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif but seriously those are all the porsches in my complex. There is a ferrari too, and a bunch of other luxury sedans (lexus, bmw, benz, etc etc). I live in a good neighborhood.

951carter 08-12-2001 07:01 PM

rollins, are you sure you don't mean 930? as in 911 turbo.

Rollins 08-12-2001 07:27 PM

No, I'm really talking about 935 (slant nose turbo). I know the one which is owned by the guy who works at the dealership is a real one. The Ruf one, I don't know.

thamlin000 08-12-2001 08:14 PM

I'm with Carter on this one. It's a slantnose 930. 935s are not street legal in America.

ae1969 08-12-2001 08:39 PM

...actually flashed during the day......

when I used to drive a 924 in the mid 80's ....I would flash other 911, 928, 944 and 924's......uhmmm and got a response....day usually....I don't flash people at night.....

the flashing of other porsche drivers is definetely dying or dead.... but hey....I still flash anyone I see.... I just think some of the newer drivers don't even know what I am doing..... (just an observation....not a condemnation)

My bad carter and tham, I had my numbers confused. I thought the slantnose 930's were known as 935s.

CJFusco 08-13-2001 09:10 AM

Believe it or not, most of the waves I get are from 944 drivers... although 911 guys wave too... mostly the older cars. NEVER got a wave from a Boxster owner, though... guess the cars haven't changed hands from the Yuppies to the Porschephiles yet.

Ted Stringer 08-14-2001 01:02 PM

This is a 935, and yes it will blow the doors of most anything on the street. Also its for sale in St. Petersburg, FL.

dk944s2 08-14-2001 02:04 PM

Hey Rollins,
Easy mistake on that 935 thing. The slant-nose conversion was an attempt (kinda feeble, IMO) to make a street 930 or 911 look like a racing 935. Of course, to each his own on aesthetics!
