You forgot to add our own beloved marque to that list. Seriously, Porsche hasn't made a car lately that gives me the visual turn-on that this concept car does. Probably is age related...I've been a closet Mopar fan since my '66 tri-power Goat had it's doors blown off by a full sized Plymouth. I failed to note the "hemi" emblem on the fender...those emblems were a lot more subtle then than today's version is, and many who had a hemi then removed the emblems.

All 911s are retro. Most 'civilians' wouldn't be able to tell the diff between a '69 and a '91.

and the new Beetle pulled VW out of a huge hole; they'd never have sold that many Golfs or Jettas... not even close.

pwd72s 01-11-2006 04:18 PM

tcar? Damned good point! The SUV the only exception...the Cayenne only copied the other stuff out there.

I respectfully disagree. The 911 has been in continuous production and the nature of the product line has been to evolve the shape over time. The retro's in discussion here are designs directly taken from cars that have been out of production for decades.

Ditto, the 911 has evolved over the years, gradually changing with time. With the exception of the Mustang, all of these cars are new models resurrected for the sake of people re-living their younger years. I don't think you could really count the Mustang as an evolution, because it has been a moving target over the years. Mustang II vs current car = apples to oranges.

Holly crap, the concept even has a manual tranny in it! I know it most likely wouldn't make it into production that way, but if it did, I'll take mine in lime green!

The boat the Chrysler group missed is a retro version of the Superbird! With that big a$s wing, they would sell like hot cakes to the ricer crowd:

Pontiac Aztek!

It's pretty slick. It looks like a follow on model, with no interveneing years having passed since the last one, at least in the photos.

With the current hemi engine, it ought to move right along.

pwd72s 01-11-2006 07:26 PM

425 horsepower? That's what the old 426 Hemi was rated at...

True, but that was SAE gross horsepower. Most are rated SAE net these days. It's pretty close to DIN horsepower.

You know, I remember way back when the Superbird came out. Dealers had real trouble moving Superbirds off the lot. Some dealers went so far as to remove the nose and wing. As for me, I thought they were great. What grade school boy wouldn't?

Somebody mentioned getting one in white. Here is a link to a white one. I also want a white one with a Hemi to match my white 1970 Challenger with the old school 426 Hemi

The new Challenger is a boring design. It's TOO close to the original. The new Lamborghini Miura redo is the same deal. They both look like ChipFoosePimpMyRide versions of the originals.

pwd72s 01-12-2006 11:38 AM

kmhemi? Are you on that board? If so, you might send 'em a link to this thread, let them read what P-car guys think. Yep, I think we might be buying a white one, but Cindy liked the gray. Of course, they have to make it first, then we'll look. Gawd, it would be fun to watch a "grudge drag" between your old & the new. Retired, no kids at home...hell, might as well buy something new that's a little bit of fun as a daily driver. If we do it, it'll be just that...grocery hauler/daily driver. I already have a cult car, and one of those is enough for me.

Green is now my second pick. The blue is just too cool!

Personally, I'd take a black one, or better yet, Challenger Purple...

I love it. It just looks mean and sleek. I had heard it was built on the Mercedes E class chassis.

I'll take mine in white please..

JeremyD 01-12-2006 12:52 PM

Lime green for me - please, flat black stripes - I like it much better than the retro Camaro... But I agree with the others on this - can we get past being spoon fed all this retro crap.

pwd72s 01-12-2006 03:35 PM

The link said possibly in the showrooms by 2009. I guess we all have time to think about it, right? No price mentioned. Anybody care to guess?
