Going Postal again.........

Before you opened this thread, you already knew what that phrase meant... 'Going Postal.'

You'd think the Postal Service would have a plan for the prevention of employees 'going postal'.

Yet it keeps happening. There are signs here that it has some disturbing commonality with previous events. There is a snickering generalization about postal workers, almost too bigoted to write about (well maybe not here, but) in the mainstream press.

This one in Goleta has the initial look of a lovers' revenge.

Between several women.

that means they are hirin'!!!!!!!!! ;0

How could that possibly happen? It is illegal to have a firearm in a US Post Office. Oh, that's right, firearm laws are only implimented to restrict the rights of law abiding citizens.

dhoward 01-31-2006 12:17 PM

The minute someone carries a firearm into the Post Office, they are no longer a 'law-abiding citizen'...

I wonder what the link is between job site shootings and US Post Office employment? Not that every postal working is shooting up the place, but there is at least anecdotal evidence of a higher probability of occurrence.

Anyone here work at the post office before? What were the pro's / con's?

dhoward 01-31-2006 12:33 PM

All those paper cuts just get to you after a while....

911skb 01-31-2006 12:39 PM

I guess so, and no matter how hard they work or how fast they go...... the avalanche of mail just keeps on coming. on and on and on and on.....
make it stop! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/loki5.gif

I think some of you discount out of hand the stress involved when there are no consequences to poor performance. Wait........

Not to mix my threads up, but there was a guy on Kalakakua last night that wouldn't move over for a cop (they are mostly unmarked here).... naw, won't go there. He was wearing a hat, BTW.

Is a beautiful day here. Back to LaLaLand tonight.

Was sorry to see the carnage in Goleta on CNN last night when we got in.

I think "going postal" has something to do with doing a boring, mundane job for years and years on end. Jobs like these should have a high turnover, and would if these jobs were low-wage like they should be.

But union wages and/or government benefits are hard to give up, so people stay at these dead-end jobs for many years. Some of the unionized grocery store cashiers here have been on the job for 30+ years!!! That's enough for anyone to go crazy. Counting money...sorting mail...do it for a year to get on your feet then move on! :)

Newman (Seinfeld) on why postal workers go postal:

"Because the mail never stops. Everyday it piles up more and more and more! And you gotta get it out but the more you get out the more it comes in. Then the bar code reader breaks and it's PUBLISHER'S CLEARING HOUSE DAY!"

Actually, you are wrong.

The right to self defense, with any tool, is intrinsic; therefore it is not subject to arguments of utilitarian nature nor is it subject to the democratic process.

I was hoping someone would post that.

This happened about a mile from my house. It becomes so much more real when its that close and you know people who work at the facility. These are the same people who crack the same old remark about "Going Postal" in casual conversations as a joke. Rings a little different today.
My thoughts are with all those families who lost loved ones and all who are affected by this.

Just heard I have to take some high rollers into Vegas this weekend for some yearly sporting event that is going on. Some sort of a big deal.....

I did mean this thread to be about the tragedy. Seems that the PO would have done everything possible to remove the 'going postal' from the vocabulary. Guess not.

Condolences as well, DB.

Tell it to the copper tasing you.
That's just a dumb thing to say.

Actually, this is the first case of going

Postelle

But I agree, I am truely saddened by both the loss of life, and the most probable additional restrictions of firearms for US citizens.
