Question for sailors
A friend of mine is picking up a sailboat for $1500. It's a MacGregor 22, in pretty good shape with the exception of some hull damage from being bashed against a dock in a storm last year. Anyway, the boat is missing its mainsail.
Where he's trying to do this on the cheap, I thought I'd try to scope out some good used sails. A couple years ago, I was able to find sails for my Chrysler 22 on ebay for under $300... there seemed to be tons of sails back then. Now it seems to be really slim pickings. I checked www.thesailwarehouse.com and they only had new... they used to carry a lot of used stuff too. You'd think there's be TONS of sails being salvaged from boats after Katrina, or does it take a long time for them to pass through the insurance & salvage companies? |
Try and look for a macgregor or venture 22 website... also try ebay - www.bentboat.com used to be seperate - but is now listing on ebay. Also try http://www.mastheadsailinggear.com/ - Jeff Linton is a local guy - one of the best sunfish sailors in the world - owns this shop. many used sails and pretty reasonable.

Great stuff Jeremy! He seems to have plenty of sails that would fit the MacGregor... plus I think I might buy a genoa for my Chrysler! Great prices too!
