We've only had Great Danes and a German Shepard.

Not a rare breed, but the rarest we've owned is a Wire Hair Fox Terrier. My wifes loves them and we've owned 3 so far. Here's our current model... Indy Jones 10 yrs. and acts like a puppy still.

I have a couple of lesser known breeds.

1. There's Val, our Deutsch Drahthaar which is a German versatile hunting dog:

2. Then there's Xtra, our rescued Anatolian Shepherd, about 8 months old in this photo:

3. then, there's out non-rare breed, Max, a chocolate Labrador, also a rescue:

Honorable mention goes to the two cats, one of which likes and associates with the dogs; the other which detests dogs and the cat that likes them.

Rotts. Good dogs if not overbred.

There was a news item on TV last night about pure bred Goldens being smuggled into Cali from Mexico and sold at pet stores. All of the poor things had severe problems. And the friggin' owner didn't do his homework on who he was getting the puppies from.

Personally, I'd avoid pet stores. Personally, if I could, I'd make it illegal to sell puppies, kittens or any animal at a pet store.

Vizla's are great dogs I hear, a sort of Hungarian Weimaraner, in a much better color, in my opinion (not knocking Weimaraners). Two pups at once? You are a glutton for punishment.

Beautiful Dogs guys...

Our last doggie was a Golden, not very rare. Current dog is a rescue dog, the very, very, very rare "Brown Dog"

Chip is actually a Chocolate Lab / Staffie mix. Greatest dog ever. (more upside down Chip pics)

Alaskan Malamute. I love the breed, even though the wolf look scares others away. Teddy bears at heart.

never had a purebred dog in my life, all mutts, generally strays that happened into my life

930addict 02-07-2006 08:08 AM

We used to have a German Shorthaired pointer. Probably the best pet I've had. Other dogs I've owned are Austrailian Shepherd, a Yellow Lab and a few muts. I'm now looking into buying a Newfoundland - maybe two. I've always had a special place in my heart for Newfs.

Anybody wanna "rescue" one of my dogs?? She's great, 9 year old chocolate lab with hip dysplasia, seizures, is either barking or whining incessantly and dumb as a stump.

Overall a great dog...prime breeding stock.

I had a Norweigan Elkhound that I literally grew up with, he was only older than I by a few months. Name was Thunder. Ahh the memories..and the stories...

We had a retaining wall in the back that he used to jump over and hang from. He would then proceed to wiggle out of his harness, and run off for a few days. He'd always come back, every time.

I had to put him down during Spring Break of my Sohpmore year. Hardest thing I've ever had to do. :(

Not so rare, but he's ugly and angry

My buddy had (lost him this year) a Meremma. Once you understood him, he was a great dog. Not much on following commands, but was bred to work autonomously, and he did so very well.

I like rotts. Very command oriented, and self-disciplined. My buddy replaced his Meremma with a rottie and is happy. I've been pleased with both of mine.

What I'd like is a Leonberger. Too high of an entry price for me. But they are impressive animals, especially in person.

Here is the wife's Newf, all 185lbs of him. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1139336296.jpg

I adopted this guy from the animal shelter. I don't know what breed, but he loves to hike, is great with kids, cats and other dogs and he attracts girls like crazy!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1139336477.jpg

goat 02-07-2006 10:36 AM

Had a Besenji.
Weirdest dog ever, and barely domesticated, man that dog pissed me off many times!.

Now I have a few of those common Vizslas These dogs are always trying to sit in your lap and a great hunting dog too.
As example from my friend steve trying to rest on a hunting trip to Arizona a few monthes back.

I would wager your dog is Samoyed/German Sheperd mix.
