"Remember Chappaquidik"

A community college student in Massachusetts faces possible disciplinary action for shouting "Remember Chappaquiddick!" during an on-campus speech by Democrat Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Paul Trost, 20, a student at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass., says he was upset by an introduction of Kennedy given by Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., in which the congressman noted how the long-time senator overcame hardship in life on his way to success.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.

"Lynch said Kennedy had overcome such adversity to get to the place he was, and that's a bunch of bull," Trost said of the introduction, which occurred in the school's student center Tuesday morning.

Just as Kennedy began speaking, Trost was walking out of the room when he shouted, "Remember Chappaquiddick!"

"Most of the crowd gasped," Trost said. "Then I walked out of the student center."

The student says a campus police officer went outside and stopped him. He also saw some state troopers go outside, the type who accompany Kennedy around the state to provide security.

Trost says the cop took down his information and told him he would be hearing from school officials about disciplinary action.
A spokesman with the campus police verified the incident but stressed that Trost was not arrested.

The student said one of his teachers confronted him after a class about the Chappaquiddick issue.

Fascichusetts.

While it is funny and I think Kennedy is a moron, I think that young man should have kept his trap shut as he is painting himself in the same light as a Cindy Sheehan. Republicans in general, usually hold themselves to higher standards of common decency when it comes to protests at public speaking events.

I applaud this young man's actions and would wish that every single politician in America would face the same honest statement said outloud in a clear and honest voice.

The notion that Ted Kennedy overcame adversity to become a US Senator is simply absurd. Kennedy wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, it was solid gold. His machine has every power block in Massachusetts sewn up and has for years.

It's too bad that George W. Bush doesn't have the same thing happen to him, but his Presidential entourage makes sure that there is no one within camera range of him when he speaks, and the SS would have arrested and charged this young man had he done the same thing to Bush.

I love free speech. Good for this Trost guy.

Too bad bush doesn't subscribe to free speech, 'cept in "zones" a few miles away from wherever he is speaking or in his "handpicked-friendly" town hall meetings.

Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick? Small beer in my view. A stupid and tragic mistake and cowardly coverup: yes. But there are bigger criminals out there.

Kissinger would be at the top of my list. This is a guy who should not just be shouted down at public appearances - he should be tried for crimes against humanity.

Speak for yourself...I heckled Hitlery Clinton at the Jay Leno show, and I certainly would do it again.

Agree 100%. No excuse for bad manners. As with Cindy Sheehan, actions like this reflect poorly on the loudmouth, not on his/her victim.

OTOH, it's kinda sad - a crippled kitten kind of sad - that Chappaquiddick is the only bright spot of glory that the NeoCons and their groupies have left to hang on to.

When old Teddy kicks the bucket, what will they fall back on? "Remember the Alamo?" "One if by land, two if by sea?"

Don't forget Bill and Monica. But I agree. take out Teddy, Bill and Monica and the Right has nothing to say. No ideas except bad ones, no direction and definitely no vision for the future of this country. They seem to be all about raping the present for their own personal gain while *******-up their children's futures down the road.

Social security
Energy policy
Security
Iraq
Iran
Debt to China
Education
Debt
Debt
Debt
Spending out of control
Debt
Additional debt taking Iraq into consideration
More debt

Is there ANYTHING the Republicans have done right in the past 5 years that has substantially made our Country more competitive on the world scene? NO. Instead the world hates us and our Constitution has been consistently trampled upon.

Oh wait, we got tort reform. hurray.

The claim of tax reduction is specious as well. Since tax collection has been made more forceful and revenues have gone up, taxes haven't actually been reduced.

Bringing up Teddy's accident is the usual, sure sign of desperation. But kinda like the lefties bringing up Laura Bush's manslaughter, i.e., irrelevant and no excuse.

juanbenae 02-23-2006 09:21 AM

then there's nixon. if i recall he was a GOP'er....

Ssssshh! Do not bring up LBJ and Vietnam! He was the one who used our Social Security funds to pay for the war that another Democrat started!

Keep digging your hole deeper... There is more than enough ammo on both sides and the more you try to wiggle out of responsibility, the deeper the hole you dig.

Once you figure that both sides are responsible, then lets work out of it.

Don't U BOYZ get it yet...There is CORRUPTION on both sides of the aisle...neither side has the mantle of rightousness....In other words both Political Parties are bought and paid for by special interests...its all about MONEY.

As you look out at the world you see American economic hegemony supported by the American military...What is good for business is good for America...its just not GM anymore. Call it an the American Empire , New World Order...its all about business. Now if this Corporate empire didin't exist neither would your standard of living..for it is the economy of scale that gives us our RD,reduces the unit cost and supplys jobs.

Who cares? Kennedy already screwed himself years ago.

rrpjr 02-23-2006 02:44 PM

A humanist would have yelled "Remember Mary Jo Kopechne." But perhaps that really would have gotten him arrested.
