$350 off on deal, do you think dealer will call back
Went to go lease a 2006 X5 3.0 with my wife yesterday.
We were trading in our Denali XL, that is really starting to have lots of problems, and being out of warranty isn't fun. I also want to get rid of it before the new Denali is out next month, and I have to pay new registration tags. We took it to CarMax and got a bid of $25,000 for a trade in. I would need to take the day off to get the car sold at Carmax, as both my wife and myself are on the title. We go to the BMW dealer, and get them to discount the car 4K, which is okay, considering in the next 6 months the new X5 will be on the road. Well they offered us $24,650 for the car, this was from the original $23,500. I wasn't going to take a penny less than $25,000. We are leasing the new car, so lowering the price $350 isn't the same, so I said put in a CD changer and you have a deal. The dealer tells us they are already taking a loss to move an 60 day old inventory car. I tell my wife, lets walk. She agrees and the dealer lets us walk out. Do you think they will call us back today? Do you think I should just suck it up and get her the car? We are getting equity out of the Denali, and will be paying $200 less a month for the X5?

How much PITA are you willing to handle for $350?

$350 doesn't seem like much.... but, why buy the X5 when the new one is coming out? Isn't that going to bother you? Personally, I like buying a new car towards the beginning of its life span.

considering the deals dealers are offering in terms of low interest rates, longer loan times, etc...they might not call back. my brother is a used car wholesaler and booming new car sales, at least here in arkansas, have been killing his businsess..

The X5 coming out isn't that much changed. They changed in 2004 and it is hard to tell the difference. You might get a call at the end of month if they want to move some inventoty.

For $350 I'd just do the deal. It's a difference of 1.4%. How much could that possibly affect the monthly? $5, $10 a month at the most.

it does seem like a pittance in the overall scheme of things..particularly if the dealer seems to be moving cars..

The dealer also called back and said they were ready to deal. Go over the numbers, and it turns out they raised the price on the car by $1,000. The sales person said the GM needed to get more, since they were loosing money on the trade in. What a bunch of scum bags.

unlikely they will call back. You're not that far apart-I'de do the deal.
May I ask-how much are you doing as "cost reduction" to get the low payment? |

Sebring it was zero, as BMW has some great lease rates at this time.

fwiw I would not have quibbled over $350 if it was going to be a done deal and the new car was *exactly* what I wanted. That's just ego flexing its muscles... |

No worries. If they call, you have a deal. If not, you can deal on a new X5 in six months....

TMV. Time Value of Money. What's the value of your time?
Let's assume the dealer calls you back the next day and says, "yes". For $350, you and your wife have to drive back and go through the rigamarole again - 2 hours x 2 people. What else could you do with that time? Could you enjoy a day with your family? Could you have made $350 working? Just another perspective...

Ya gotta draw the line somewhere. You didn't meet theirs, they didn't meet yours.
Move along, folks....... Nothing more to see. |
