Conditioned Reflex amongst married men

Just recently I was PMing with a bud here on PP. I responded to an inquery in a quick one word response. The person I was communicating with, due to my one word response, was concerned that I had been offended by his question and right away apologized. It seems to me that you married guys all seem to think that single word responses are a sign of impending anger.
Whats with you guys??

Seriously? A single word response conveys the message that you are not worthy of a proper response. Reasonable people would automatically assume you are angry or just plain rude.

What message does a single-word response send? I'm a very busy man and you're lucky I took the time to respond at all?

Words are an important social lubricant, your austere response might indicate that you don't really care enough for a proper sentence.

social lubricant? I normally use alcohol.
Point well made Moses.

As a married guy I resent this. No one word responses for me...no sir! "Yes Dear" is a well practiced respnse...

If you don't know, then I'm not telling you!

I think the problem is that over electronic media it's difficult to tell what emotion people are feeling unlike when you are on the phone or in person.

Would it be better if he just didn't give a damn what you thought?
