When I was in Morgan City, LA last week for one of our movies, I had the pleasure of spending time with JohnCo and his g/f Julie who owns the only upscale cafe in Morgan City. John turned me on to louisianacrawfishman.com which sells spice mixes for Gumbo, Jumbalaya, Etoufee, Cajun Gravy, etc. I went on line and ordered a bunch of their mixes. 18 mixes for $40. I got them a few days ago, and let me tell you they are excellent. You have to add your own seafood, sausage, vegetables, they are only seasonings. As good, and maybe better than some of the local stuff I had. Check them out. They ship twice a week, and I got my order in 3 days. louisianacrawfishman.com

Told you so! did you make gumbo with those shrimp you brought home? you should have brought home some crawfish tails also. great with the etoufee mix. too easy wasn't it? don't tell everyone it came from a box... just impress them with your new cooking skills, hehe

Just curious, what's filming in Morgan City?

BTW, if you haven't experienced, FIRSTHAND, South Louisiana cooking then you should make a trip to New Orleans now.

Hugh, if you want, I could send you a care package of different cajun seasonings. Tony Chacherie's is probably the most popular, Tiger sauce (my favorite) Tabasco, etc... and maybe a small bottle of my homemade apple sauce.. you know which one I am talking about! your stunt guys asked me to make them some, so I'll have samples soon.

Thanks Johnco, yeah, I brought home six pounds of shrimp in a cooler with dry ice. Bought them right off the shrimp boat, and got some crawfish tails at Walmart, frozen, vacuum packed. They don't sell those at the Walmart supercenter out here! The apple sauce (moonshine) you can't smoke around, its very flammable! I'm cool for now. Doing the "Dancing Chicken" tonight with the cajun gravy mix and an opened can of beer stuck inside it tonight.

"Deja Vu" its an FBI action thriller with Denzel Washington. We're also filming in and around New Orleans. It was supposed to film last summer, but Katrina got in the way. They rewrote the script to make it post-Katrina.

hugh..ot, i know..but could you post a pic of your db4? i used to have a '72 olds cutlass convertible, black on black with the hurst shifter, btw. :)

hugh..what a delightful car! do you do your own servicing on it or take it to an aston martin dealer?! ;) bet they'd flip seeing that beauty drive up! :) i was silently hoping it was going to be gray..;)

Here's some pics from a few years ago rebuilding the engine. I'm actually going to pull it again in a month or so when it gets consistently warmer, I think I have an imbalanced flywheel.

great pics, hugh..thanks for taking the time to post them. curious about the hood scoop..it's clearly not for forced-air induction..is it just for cooling purposes?

Yeah, it and the side louvers on each side of the car I guess help to pull heat away, although it may be just for looks, but the scoop is open to the engine compartment. Ventilation system air intakes are ducted to inside of the grill.

Water cooled, yeah, and 12 quarts of oil. Aluminum block with steel jug inserts, aluminum head, aluminum body over a tubular steel frame. Weights about 2,600 pounds, but its a big car compared to the 911s. About the size of a Jag XKE. First car I ever bought 34 years ago. The engine isn't over polished, its pretty much how its supposed to look from the factory, just clean.

hugh, the db4 was your first car? and you still have it..very cool. wow..water and 12 quarts of oil for cooling. does it have a temp gauge? what are the normal operating temps? i'm guessing cooling isn't a problem with this car! ;)

Actually it runs kind of hot. First production Aston with a 150mph rating. Cooling is a big issue on these models. Gotta run. Later

Your pictures make me want to kick myself in the rear and get to work on my Jag. Engine is much the same and car is about 70% restored now. Course being overseas working for the last 5 months make that a bit difficult. Coming home in 24 hours and cannot wait to get back in the car.

My first experience with the DB cars was with a DB-4 owned by one of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. I knew some friends of theirs and was well known in our area as one of the Brit car guru's. In other words I knew how to make SU carbs work.

Did some work on his car then we lost touch when I moved to AZ but really enjoyed the car.

Hope you drive that to Vegas!

Edit, I had the same problems with my Jag on overheating. Took the radiator out and had it recored with an extra row of cooling tubes. Never had a problem after that. Might look into that on your car.

When Dad had trouble with the V-12 XKE overheating, he had them put an extra electric fan on the back of the rad, seems to me it had some electric fans on there, but were inadaquate for low speeds. Would run 140 all day, but it did not like traffic much
