Long term care insurance worthwhile?

I have asked a few people about this and the consensus seems to be that it is not worth it: the cost is high and the probability that you will use it is low. I was also told that the average stay in a nursing home is only 18 months, so you would do better to save the premium money and use it to pay for the the final 18 months that you are a drooling vegetable. This of course assumes that you do not have a family history of prolonged & debilitating diseases.

On a similar subject I went to a funeral "viewing" the other day. What a ghoulish spectacle. I am going to tell my spouse that if I go first I want no viewing; just give me a Viking funeral: put my body in the Carrera and set it on fire.

I have reached the age (56) where friends & neighbors are starting to drop off their perches. It helps concentrate the mind on what are the really worthwhile things to spend time doing: playing with the P-car and adventure travel.
