Woman+SUV+Supercharger = Near death

I just came back from a new project, drove the 30 year old 911. Pulled up next to a white Toyota Highlander SUV with California plates (I'm in Michigan) which said limited or sportsman, it had non-stock looking tail lights - anyway the light turns green. She nails it, almost spinning all four wheels and takes off, I back off because I don't think this person is safe to be around, I did not look at the driver yet, thought it was a punk kid being reckless. The speed limit is 45mph, I'm not even doing 40mph and staying way back when they get about 100 feet ahead of me, gotta be doing 80mph and change lanes from left to right which causes a series of events in almost slow motion.

First off they almost slide into the curb while changing lanes, then they over correct and start going into the left lane again, then they hid a bump in the road which sends the left rear tire up into the air (I thought it was going to roll over), when they come down they are zooming across the lane and almost hit the curb on the right again.

I think they ended up doing about 90mph and were almost a half mile ahead of me by the time I lost sight of them over a hill (I-94).

Two lights later I pull up to the side of them, look over and it's a housewife looking like the cat that's just ate a bird - all proud of herself. I'm thinking what a dumb husband she has for installing a supercharger in high center of gravity truck.

I looked it up, the stock truck already does 0-60 in 7 seconds.

Woman+SUV+Supercharger = Near death

I bet she goes home and brags about beating a Porsche. Someone should tell her Michigan roads combined with her driving is going to get her buried.

I grew up in just south of Detroit. I-94 has always been a speedway with giant pot holes. Last time I was there (3 yrs ago) I had to do 85 to keep up with traffic.

I resemble that remark.

How can you say no to a factory built, with no loss to warranty TRD supercharger??

Dumb people do dumb things.

Those extra ponies really help pull around them dang horses of my wifes.

You almost make it sound like a bad thing.

If people feel the need to do stoplight to stoplight like that, I'm guessing they have a serious inferiority complex, which makes you the winner at the end of the day.

If she had done the same type of stupid driving in a Mustang GT, would it be any different? What's the big deal with fast SUVs? BTW, with Carrera GT production done or nearly done and the new GT2 a year away, the most powerful Porsche built is the Cayenne Turbo S!

I was coming south from downtown Ann Arbor on Main Street. The action took place where Main Street splits, and taking Ann Arbor/Saline road to I-94. The dip/bump in the road is at the bottom of a hill. The road then goes up the hill which ends up as the overpass for I-94.

I'm guessing they don't have those big dips/bumps in California, maybe she saw God for a second.

I fear for her, and all on the road with her.

God save us all.

Sure, for that matter, why not drive like that with a tractor trailer?

I think the point was that in the Toyota SUV she was much more likely to roll or completely lose control than in something like a mustang. Yes, the Cayenne Turbo S has tons of power, but it's a tad different than most SUV's. Despite it's size and weight it's still fairly nimble on it's feet.

A couple of years back, I ordered an Infiniti G35 6MT for my wife to replace her daily driver (Acura Legend)...We wanted a car with Porsche-like drivability, so here it is as it was built: 6-speed, Brembo brakes, ATI C2 supercharger with air-to-air intercooler, aux. fuel pump, on-board FMU, 19" Volk LE37T's. The car is an absolute beast. So We go about our merry way, enjoying it and our other cars. I luck up on a 1-owner white '86 Carrera with 60K miles. I buy it for her so we can have "his & hers" for PCA activities.

Here's where it gets funny: even though the G35 has WAY more power than our 911's, she is now very comfortable driving a 911. So much so that she prefers it over the G (although she likes to drive "my" red 911 instead of "her" white one.

God, do I love this girl!!!!! So now, the G is up for sale and she wants a 993 cab!!!!! Pretty soon, everything we own will be rear-engined, air cooled. Anyone want a pristine supercharged G35?
