Diazinon
 

The last of the diazinon (22%) I had is gone. It's been a good time having it around.

What have you tried that is comparable for lawns, and shrubs?
Any application style.

Thinking of getting a commercial apps. lic. is not the direction, for now.

What are you trying to do? For shrubs there are VERY few things that Diazinon would be good for. What is your turf problem?

The problem was grubs, cutworms, and june bug larvae on a St. Augustinegrass lawn. I'm looking for the next best possible solution.

Nerve agents tend to work best, IMHO. You just can't get them anymore.

Since you're in Austin, try the store Solutions. They sell all the good pestisides and can usually recommend what's best. Fortunately in Texas we can buy all the professional pestisides over the counter.

Have you tried Milky Spore biological control. Those that I know who've tried it think it's pretty good.

I agree with the Milky Spore suggestion, just be patient if you try it. There are several superior grub control (white grubs ARE june bug larvae, and cut worms will generally be affected by a 'grub control' product) products out there. Not sure about TX, but there generally isn't much that I can buy (for turf at least, aquatic and agri is different) with an applicator's permit that you couldn't get from the right retailers.

Diazinon is gone. I think there is stuff called Triazinon or something like that that replaced Diazinon. But I stopped using all those things cause it kills EVERYTHING, even the good bugs and worms.

Grubs were killing my yard so I tried that GrubEx and that didn't do anything except maybe feed them. But then I tried Bayer (yes like the aspirin) spray. It hooked up to the garden hose and I sprayed the yard. No problems since. The dead areas are almost all filled in again.

You got to ask yourself - why are they banning this stuff?

Many, if not all, of the bans by the EPA have been for reasons other than for the danger they pose to humans.

I'm an enthusiast of using biological controls when they're appropriate and when they work; and using chemistry when it's appropriate.

I really don't want or need a government to be involved in those decisions.

Dont forget the FDA.

Bad science based politics. Enviornmental whackos have political clout, politicians do as asked. Give me enough "campaign donation" money, and I could pass legislation requiring that every male in the USA wear orange underwear. It could be sold
as a safety measure.

Remember when you were a kid and robins pulled worms out of your yard and you chased fireflys with a mason jar at night? Something to think about..

You mean like it was back when we used DDT?

How did we ever effect a world wide ban of DDT? If malaria was our problem is would have never happened.

Deeply, with conviction. Government is the last place you look for security and morals.

Pat, are you okay with the gubmint making any and all chemicals available to your neighbors. It's just peechy that you think you don't need gubmint to regulate your chemical use, but that's not the point. Cute, but irrelevent. Are you okay with your local Homer Simpson who lives directly over your city's aquifer to have barrels of MEK?

If you think government is stopping that, you are naive.

For what reason did you make us aware that you feel no need for the gubmint to regulate YOUR chemical use?

Do you feel it would better if the gubmint simply got entirely out of the business of regulating chemicals?

We know you imagine a Utopia if gubmint just disappeared, but we're wondering about the details of your Master Plan. Sure, chemicals still get used inappropriately. BFD. Answer the second question above.
