anyone planning on any hunting this year?

sorry animal lovers. if it helps, i suck, and my success rate is maybe 7%. that means 93% of my fees are more like donations. i finally got off my butt and sent in my $$ for three great elk regions, in new mexico. i think i find out in june if i hit the lotto.

having said that, i am jonesing for a new rifle. thinking of a kimber montana, in .300 WSM.

Yep, still a few lawyers out there who have not been bagged...

Kimber makes a fine weapon and the .300 is a good cartridge.

Turkey season starts on the 15th here. I have plans to go up to north central Nebraska that weekend. I really like spring turkey season, in my mind nothing beats it. Things are just starting to turn green again. Its really neat to be out there this time of year.

I got a Savage .30-06 I will sell ya on the cheap if you are interested. Its in great shape!

Joe,

This guy here was telling me that back in the 50s and even as recent as the 80s people would fly around out in the country and shoot yotes from their airplane.

Since your a pilot I just thought you would find it funny.

I'll be deer hunting in Michigan this year.

I need a new rifle as well. I was thinking a Remington 700 in either .270 or .308. There are all sorts of new calibers.....7mm-08?

I used to hunt with an 8mm Mauser. Thing was a ****** cannon. Massive recoil, and more rilfe than I need for white tails.

i got a 30.06 in a winchester model 70. and a .257 weatherby mark five. i just want a really all around gun, for the big animals.

i scouted the area, just a few days ago, and we saw tons of turkey. i cant seem to get away back to texas to do any hunting, but my bro is going on the 15th. seems difficult. those critters are very wary. we saw lots of mulies, 3 coyotes, and six cow elk too. unit 34 should pan out if we draw.

Probably see if I can get some buddies together and go on a hog hunt. They're nuisance animals, so we'd be doing whoever owns the land a favor.

I like to take my M1 for some semiautomatic .30-06 whoopass. I think I'll bring my SKS and if I get the time to do it, my K31 (need to get some Wolf ammo, shoot it up, get some dies and load up some good ammo, and also get a clamp on scope mount and a halfway decent scope)

Only hunting I do is whitetail. No small game. Bow season in Sept. and rifle in Nov. I have a bunch of rifles,
7MM mag Weatherby, Rem 700 bdl 30/06, Win 308. Few others. But my fave to hunt with is my Marlin lever 30/30. I just like the way it feels.

You're .30-'06 is adequate for elk with good shot placement, and I'm sure that's what you'll do. Kimber makes fine weapons, and you'll get a very good rifle from them.

My father is taking my son deer hunting this fall and they'll go up north a few times this summer to get everything ready and do some target shooting with the rifles. I used to hunt pheasant, duck and geese, but not in a few years as I don't have a dog, property or the desire to get cold, wet and dirty. I like to eat fresh game and elk is my absolute favorite!

Just got back from a Texas quail hunt at the end of February.
I will be heading to Montana/Wyoming in October for antelope/mule deer and elk/moose if I win the license lottery for those. Will take the .22 for praire dog plinking, and the trusty Remington Gamemaster 30.06 pump handed down from my grandfather for the big game.

Ilinois and Pennsylvania produce some of the largest trophy Whitetail deer every year, and good hunting for the rest of the citizenry.

If I were new to hunting, I'd find a local NRA instructor and find a good, low cost hunting group or club to learn from. Some states require a hunter safety class, and you can get a lot of information about hunting from those that teach the class.

Hey!
Yeah, going hunting this year, as usual. Quail and grouse hunting is also the time for my deer scouting. Will be using my Freedom Arms 454 Casull for big game. I bagged a buck with it last year (100 yds using a log as a rest) and I was so impressed with its power on the animal that I am now a dedicated handgun hunter. Its nice having two hands free to negotiate steep terrain too.
I don't think I have time to do elk this year. But, I would use the 454 on them too.
