Door Slammers!
I don't give my brother or some of my friends rides in the P-car any more cause they SLAM the door. I've asked them nicely up to creating an argument with some of them. They just don't get it! Therefore, NO more rides for them! Easy enough.
That brings me to one of the biggest culprits to this issue. The wife! She is used to big heavy GM doors so she's used to using a certain amount of force to close the door. When she gets in the P-car that force is now a SLAM. I get the door most of the time for her, but sometimes she wants me to let her out at the front door so she can jump in/out. When she does this she slams the door. She's working on it, so last time it took her 4 times to close the door cause she wasn't using enough force. I'm just worried that she is going to break something in the door. Knock something out of alignment or off track. At least she listens to me and acknowledges the fact I'm not happy about it and she's trying. So, how do you deal with door slammers? Is there a cushion or something to slow the door speed down before it slams closed? |
I have the same problem. (Look at my list of vehicles.) I'm pretty good with the Porsche, but my wife does the same thing. I just gently remind her. I'm not worried about anything getting broken.

My doors don't close all the way unless the door is slammed shut firmly.
So in my car slamming is a good thing! |
I had this problem with my girlfriend. Take the door panel off, and disable the inside door handle, then you get out of the car and get the door for her. You look like a gentleman and you save your doors :)

I do get the door most of the time (99%). It's just when she jumps in/out to run in somewhere real quick. Drop off a movie, getting in line at restaurants, grab something at the grocery store, get a coffee, etc.
I must add though that usually by the time fall starts to roll around she is a lot better at it. It's just getting used to it again in the spring time. |
G-switch wired to a stun-gun.

Yeah I get this all the time. I think that people are just used to heavier doors that NEED slamming.

my next rental car, i am going to slam hard as hell. what can break? i dont like it, but i dont think anything car get hurt, can it?
|
I've had a window fall off track from slamming the door before in a '87 Toyota Pickup. But other than that I've never heard of anything breaking.

On a car with good weather seals, slamming the door without a door exit, will slowly kill them. A 944 is well sealed, so its a bad idea to slam the door, I shut mine gently, and give a firm enough pressure at the end - rather then speed - to shut it.
I always tell everyone before they shut the door, giving that reason. Worked for me. |
Bad for switches, electronics, speakers alignment of windows the list goes on. I almost always show a new person how to close the door. Some people get annoyed but I can live with that. Most people who know me know I'm a bit nuts about my vehicles.
|
That's funny because I CAN"T STAND when people do that. My Dad used to holler at us kids. "I have a door on this side already!" when we would slam them on the ol' family ride. My wife has learned over the years that you don't have to slam them to China for them to close. My brother is aboout the only that rides in the 911 with me anymore. His problem is he leaves his crap that he brought along for the trip in my car when we arrive back at my house. Jeez dude, take your ***** with you when you get out!!!!

Guilty here.
I broke the glass in one of my cars by closing too hard. I'm in a 12 step program to correct.... |
Door slammers drive me f#$%ing nuts! I have worked hard for the things I have and I would like them to stay nice and last as long as possible.
I have a '72 Chevy pickup that was my father's - still under 50,000 miles. The passenger door will close with a one finger push. I always get the door for the wife or kid that might be going along, and when they exit, I reach over and close the door myself. I get the feeling, from some of the looks, that I'm being way over the top when it comes to this. It's nice to see I am not alone. |
Someone slam the door on the Black Audi
|
You could open and close the door for your wife..... http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/face80.gif

Every time somebody gets in and slams the door I counter with
'Now, do you feel better?' after a few confused stares they usually get the point. |

Its funny, everyone that rides in my DC is very careful to close to door gently only to have stay ajar. I end up reaching over opening it and slamming it shut. They look startled that I shut the door on my Porsche so hard. Is there a way to get that 27 year old car sagging door problem straightened out? |
