Tibet?
With the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao in the news it has got me thinking.
WTF does China need Tibet for? It's not like they are hurting for land or people. Granted I have never been there but what I have seen and heard of the place it looks like pretty barren terrain with some farmers living in the lowlands and monks living in monasteries in the mountains. Perhaps some of you brainy types who are up on world affairs could enlighten me. BTW Tibet is on my list of places I want to see before I die. |
you don't give up something you've got

China is not only never going to give up Tibet, they are very actively promoting resettlement of Han Chinese to Tibet. Tibet has become a very "in" tourist destination among Han Chinese, which are 91% (well over 1 billion) of China's population. Tibet has become the "Lebensraum" of Communist China. Xinjiang Province to the north of Tibet is next on their list to "Han'ify". Lots of Tibet protestors around my office today too. I wonder, though, how successful the resettlement efforts will be. Tibet is a very hostile environment. There is no hot water there, altitude sickness discourages a lot of visitors and the locals are not exactly warm and friendly toward Han Chinese.

Control.

China wants Tibet. China wants Taiwan. I was recently told that China also believes they own Japan. I'm beginning to see a pattern forming here...

Should be interesting when they try moving on Korea.

Has anyone besides me noticed that the lefty bumper sticker "Free Tibet" has been changed to "Save Tibet"?...I think the lefties were actually afraid that Bush would take them up on it, so they changed it to the ambiguous "SAVE Tibet."

Hmmm, save it for the commies? Or free it the way B2 freed Iraq?

Quote:
Iraq and Afghanistan are at the threshold of freedom, unfortunately being undermined every step of the way by the fundamentalist Islamofascists. They are arm-and-arm with the American left who have a vested interest in snatching defeat and horror from the jaws of freedom and peace. Bush, if nothing else, will go down in history as a man with a bold vision, a vision that liberated 50 million people and changed the very face of the ME. |
Tibet is lost. It ain't ever gonna change. Talk to any Han Chinese about itand they have the same attitude the British had about colonizing India - they are civilizing the place and the savages should be thankful for it. Obviously, the Tibetans see things differently. There is such a huge disconnect and it will never change. Any Han Chinese person can recite the stat. that one PLA soldier died for every kilometer of hwy. they built in Tibet and they honestly don't understand why the Tibetans don't appreciate this.
