Micro etching process, what's it worth?
I've learned that it's possible to laser etch any amount of data in a very small space. Someone said that the process could be used to identify the original build parts of a car or anything else. Sort of a DNA for every manufactured item, or less, if that's what's appropriate. The whole VIN+individual PN's+variations like color all on a pin head.
So, who is using this now? Is there a future for this? I've got some pins I could put my ID on. ![]() Seriously, I have a lot of tools, but I'm reluctant to put my SS# or DL# for that matter on them. Something that couldn't be seen w/o a scope would be kinda stealthy. Anyone? |

Milt,
If the information is etched at the microscopic level, I suspect it would be too easy to mar/erase/obliterate it. Electronic goodies or stuff that is not abused perhaps, but tools would be too prone to information/data corruption. Les
